S55 tune
Hi everyone, 2018 M4 base 6MT owner here. My local indy, who mostly does BMW performance/ track cars, recommended MHD over BM3 and CarBahn for a stage 1 tune. His word has been as good as gold so far, so I went ahead and bought the super package for MHD’s s55 tune(s).
The main reason I am tuning is because I want to add some more kick until i’m fully saved up for labor hours on the work I’m getting done. After the work is done I will be going for 550hp+, at which point I’ll either get a custom map or try out one of the stage 2/3 maps out there. I’m also not opposed to trying out other stage 1 tunes in the near future can anybody who has either of the 3 tunes please share their experience with them? Pros and cons? I’ve read through many, many forum posts and can’t seem to find any definitive answer; I read different opinions which have other memebers rallying behind them. I understand that most drivers will be opiniated about what works best for them, but I’m still wide open to any information at all. |

If you already bought MHD there's no point in comparing. BM3 is just as good, I believe a little bit more conservative. All will serve you well.

Yeah, I was just curious about how they stacked up against each other. Either way, I’m sure it’ll be smiles per gallon all around! Cheers

I have BM3, MHD and Ecutek licenses.
BM3 - Solid and proven and great UI. However I had idle issues with cold start on flex fuel on anything above E40. Custom tuning didn’t help either as it is a BM3 issue (Cary Jordan). MHD - Perfect all around in terms of cold start on flex fuel. However the OTS map throttle mapping sucks and there is no way to change it, yet. I’ve sent Martial a request to desensitize the Sport+ mapping since it’s almost undrivable on the street since it is so sensitive. MHD does not change the sensitivity so it’s stock sensitivity but with added power = drives like crud. ECUTEK / Bend Calibration is what I am on now. It’s expensive but it’s the most refined out of all 3 on flex fuel. No issues with cold start, smooth linear power, pulls hard as hell on E50-E60. Power delivery is very controlled and it drives like the stock Stage 0 GTS map with 100 more whp.

I read that Bend’s tune feels just like stock, and that their flat tune is just like stock with some extra punch. Drivability is a huuuge factor for me so I’m glad to know that Bend is producing reliable results thanks so much for all the input! I was debating ECUTEK/ Bend or just swapping over to BM3 for f80paul’s tune, now I have one more vote towards Bend. I wondered why I hadn’t seen MHD in the Dragy leaderboards as much as BM3 or custom tunes, but I have some idea now lol. I ran 93 octane today (California, mixed 91 and 100) and I absolutely want to get bend’s ultimate flex fuel kit. I need corn! xD |

And always remember; just like Trix, burbles are for kids, so either turn them waaayyyy down (OEM style, maybe like a 4000-5000 RPM threshold and short duration of 0.2 sec or so, that way you get one good pop when you're really giving it the beans), or just turn them off completely. |

Has anyone tried MHD with the new throttle mapping? I noticed in 4.60 it states: “Updated S55 maps to 1.13, decrease brap sensitivity to improve sport+ drivability”
Only thing is, in 4.62, it now says “Reverted S55 maps to 1.12”. No idea why, but it doesn’t fill me with confidence… |
