I would bet 3350-3450lbs. 3000-3200 just ain't happening this time around. 3200 goes back to e36 days.

I think he just meant that it gained some weight from the e46 gen. I dont care I'd rock an e92 m3 any day. Considering the boats lurking around the highways @ 4200lbs now days, one would think the e92 @ 3700 is a lighweight fit and agile car.

I think its cool that we get 420 hp as an option in the next CTS. Does it make me like the CTS a little more? Yup. Does it make me dislike the BMW more?. Nope

My thoughts on the engine are very interested to know more especially more about it being available in the upcoming ATS-V, which is a car that is projected to compete with the M3, C63, RS4 etc.

Now that the ATS has come along the CTS can graduate from this middle sized model to a proper mid-size saloon to compete with the 5 series, E-class, A6/S6, etc.

The CTS V-sport model with the TTV6 (420hp) will likely be priced closer to the 535i, E350, or A6 3.0T...which is great value for the performance minded, 100hp more than its similarly priced rivals....leaving the CTS-V to compete for the market between the 550i & M5 or E550 & E63...

Ehhh...the Vsport will go against the 550s and S6 to an extent the way its spec'd out.

The 535i/3.0T will go against the regular CTS V6.

The prices will be close just like the ATS vs 3-series.

According to Cadillac reps the vsport will be a model to fill the gap between the 43k msrp cts 3.6 and the 63k msrp cts-v. A 20k msrp difference means the vsport might msrp around 53k...the msrp on a 535i is 53k....so I would say those are price competitors...in fact the msrp on the 550i is almost 63k, the same as the cts-v.

I'm pretty sure they haven't announced pricing for the 2014 yet. The Vsport does fill the gap between the 3.6 and V but I'm expecting the CTS-V to be 75K+ this time around. The ATS 3.6 starts at $38K as a base. I don't expect even the CTS 2.0T to even start off that low.

20% increase? That seems like a lot but I guess we will see once pricing is Announced.

I think you just described a Veyron!
Hahahahah there are very few times this forum makes me actually laugh out loud. The description of the beast M3 followed by Veyron comment would have sent milk from my nose had I been drinking it

GT-R forum peeps hated when i said i was selling the car because it felt electronic and numb, i got so bored of daily driving it and tracking that i completely lost the passion i had for that car. And this is a car i have always wanted to own since the R32 GT-R version was around, you start to loose that passion the moment you dont feel involved with the driving and this tends to happen when manufacturers start putting hybrid system's mated to huge engines to meet fuel economy regulations as well as performance demands by the market. I think the HP race between audi, bmw, cadillac, and mercedes is ridiculous. I hope automakers go back to basics and start focusing on light weight technology instead of compensating with huge hp numbers, huge wheels, and brakes for their fat ass mess.

The CTS is in the same segment as the 5 series (not the 3 series), so this just means Cadillac now has a model to compete against the 400hp (very soon to be 445hp) 550i. And the E550 and S6 as well. The higher end cars in this class have always had about as much power as an M3 of the same vintage. Of course they also weigh more, and do not feature a performance-focused chassis like an M3 does.

If/when the ATS-V gets this engine, there will be more natural comparison.

Ill just jump into an R8 v10 when the next gen comes out. 400 hp m3 will simply get slaughtered by teh competition
Ya, power to weight has nothing to do with it.

You're far better off getting that 3900lbs C63 AMG with 445HP than a 3300lbs 415HP F80 M3.

Come on, buddy

The new CTS-V will be worth a look. They're fixing much of the current gaudiness with the new iteration. I need to get something that will hold four adults (for business), by mid-2014, when the M5 pig approaches 70K miles.

I'm down to the S6, the new CTS-V, and the new M3. All should be similarly priced, and the M3 may be the cheapest. Likely the M3 will win out, but I'm amazed that the other two can be serious contenders on my list. That never used to be the case.

Isn't a CTS-V an M5 rival and not an M3 rival?

Yes, generally considered as such. I'm including it because of my 4-adult seating requirement, and fortunately (for me) with the greater knee room in the new 3's, the new M3 will qualify!

for this much money -- I would get the new corvette with manual transmission and call it a day. Unless the new M3 is 500hp and sub 3500 lbs, there is no way it can compete with the new vette.

Then you are shopping for a sports car, not a sedan.

It also can't tow 10000 lbs, so it won't be able to compete with a Silverado either. It can't carry your entire posse, so the Escalade has it beat handily too. And It doesn't get anywhere near 100MPG so it easily loses to the Volt.

Yet I think BMW will find plenty of takers.
