2018 F82 Carbon Roof Question.

Anyone have any idea if this CF roof option will actually allow access to the roof rack mounts for a 2018 F82 or do you expect it to be the same as 2017?

I love the CF roof but I move my bike way too much to not be able to mount a rack. Drilling through the CF is not something I would be comfortable doing at this point.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your question, but all the CF roofed M4s I've seen still had the gloss black strip with the rack mounting holes/covers running next to the CF roof.

yes, they all have the flaps but under the flap there is no provision for the mount. They placed the carbon over the holes. Some have started drilling the CF to gain access to the threaded holes underneath....I'm not comfortable doing that...My dealer seems to think that BMW fixed this for 2018 but I was hoping to confirm.

Ah...I didn't know that. Never opened the covers to look. That is truly an odd engineering "oversight" for BMW. My 2018 F82 is scheduled to arrive in two weeks. If nobody else has confirmed by then I will take a look and report back.

Very odd and I would appreciate it.....Mine is still in 112 status so I've been told that I have a little bit of time to make the change.

I'm willing to bet that you won't have the holes to mount a roof rack. It's been like this ever since F8x was released.

I don't think that was an oversight by BMW. Most likely the CF roof isn't structurally rigid enough to support roof mounts.

I was under the impression that the structural support for the roof mount is not changed with CF roof but I could be mistaken.

Who knows!

I'm going to just stick with the sunroof so I can ensure I'm able to haul my bikes around still.

I was doing some research on those...Looks like most have had really good results....Scares me a little to have 2x5K bikes on top of 80K car being held on by suction.

I felt that way when I tried it on my E92. It worked out. But I don't ride anymore (injury) so I haven't tried it in the F82. Also my E92 didn't have a carbon roof. It seems to be fine based on those pictures. Most annoying thing to me was having to wipe/clean the roof before putting them on.

Another option is there new Komodo setup, which can be installed on the trunk

The e92, F8X have not had access to the holes to date. I would find it very hard to believe that the 2018 model will be any different.

I got the sunroof for this reason. It's sad, because I don't care for the sunroof, like the CF roof, but need the roof rack for skis, bikes, etc.

There are a few members that have actually retrofitted them, but that meant taking a drill to the CF
