For those of you using preset buttons to turn the nav screen off, if you want your button back, press the voice command button and say "control display off". Same effect! And yes, just press the idrive control knob down to turn the screen back on.

If you lightly touch (but not press) the radio preset on the center console the display will tell/preview what station it's set to.

Did you know it's not just for radio presents? You can program those buttons for many different functions.

can't "re-code" anti-dazzle on the new '18 icon LED's.
ugh.
wonder if DOT changed the law if BMW would let dealer re-code.
we may have to write our congressmen

See http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...086530&page=56 for coding 2018 F80/F82 for GFHB.

Also search for posts I submitted on that forum. I’ve shared both a spreadsheet that shows the coding logic (analysis of light groups and settings) and a Launcher cheat code XML file. Use the most recent cheat codes I’ve posted. Instructions can be found in my posts.

Angry A Rattle.....It's a Maddening Rattle

Well I learned my M3 started the infamous rattling somewhere in the middle of the dash the other night.

I thought, son-of-a-biscuit, I guess its true. It took almost two years before I had the experience though. At the same time, I learned that I do not like rattling sounds coming from the dash board. Apparently I would not bode well in the "Right Stuff" psychological testing of long periods in space with various sounds of annoyance as the test mode of operandi. I could not for the life of me pinpoint the source, it almost seemed to be jumping around.

As I encouraged my wife last night to listen and experience this maddening sound, in hopes she could pin point it, I learned we hear things differently, as she did not hear "The Sound". It was quite distinct as I drove over undulations, fluctuations, bumps, and other unsmooth surface areas in the road. I told her she needed to get her hearing checked, because I certainly could hear it. She gave me the look..

I then learned with the greatest of satisfaction the source of this extremely vexing sound, it was...........the friggin sun visor, on the driver's side, that was not quite snapped into place. I could not believe it! I swear the sound was bouncing from one area to another, so much so I was sure it was multiple places within the dash making the sound, but lo and behold it was the unsnapped sun visor.

Another "Doh!" moment, if not a dry happy ending for DBACE.

For the TL;DR crowd:
Thought I had a dash rattle. Mad. Was loose sun visor. Happy.

Did some GTS flashing/coding on my 2017 F80 ZCP yesterday.

Here is what I learned:

GTS DCT - An absolute must. It transforms the DCT gearbox to the point where it feels like an entirely different vehicle. I was seriously considering ditching the F80 because the gearbox was driving me crazy. Everyone says "you need to learn to adapt to it, you are driving it wrong, etc." NOPE. The stock DCT software just sucks. Jerky acceleration is gone. Jerky downshifts is gone. Faster upshifts and non-jerky downshifts are in place. Going into reverse is instant. Slow speed driving (e.g., around parking lots) is MUCH better. You lightly press the throttle and it moves forward slowly and smoothly with no jerk. Stock, it was press throttle, go nowhere, press more throttle, you jerk forward, press more throttle, you hit the car in front of you. No more of that non-sense. It is transformational. Just do it, now.

GTS Power Steering - 2nd best change relative to the DCT. When your steering wheel is dead center, when you move left or right, there is a "dead spot" that no matter how much you move it, the car stays straight. This means you need to give more steering input to get the car to turn. NO MORE!! With the GTS PS, you barely touch the steering wheel, it turns. The steering is more sensitive, but in a good, confidence inspiring way. For some reason, I also get the sensation that the steering is "smoother" in comfort mode. It's lighter, feels more natural, and makes the car a pleasure to drive on short or long journeys. You don't need to wrestle with the steering wheel as much. I can turn the wheel with my pinky finger and its super smooth. Definitely helps with driving fatigue in day to day traffic. The steering is noticeably more precise. Do it, now.

GTS MDM - MDM hardly kicks in anymore. Makes the car feel more natural and balanced without all the nannys telling me what I can and can't do. In a way, its more playful and fluid. Feels like the systems are getting in the way of letting the M3 be an M3.

GTS Diff - It's hard to distinguish what this changes due to the GTS DCT flash being done at the same time. However, you might as well just do it if you are going to do everything else. I am OCD and I hate when things are "incomplete" or "doesn't match." The whole package above will transform your F80.

You did this coding yourself? I've done some simple stuff to my 2015 F80, but I'm several I-steps behind, and I'd love the improvements you mentioned. How hard was this to do? Just VO coding?

Total f8x newbie here, so definitely subscribing. I did finally figure out what that plastic trapezoid thing is on the shelf behind the rear seats... a place to tuck in the middle seatbelt latched when it's disconnected.
