ROBD314,

I'm trying to figure out the best size for Marley my Westie, he weighs 20 lbs. Is the one that Otto is sitting in - the car seat or - the car seat 2x size. How much does Otto weigh?

Get the 2x size, that's what I got. Otto is 25lbs and he has room to spare

I never heard of dogs having food allergies until I got my current dogs. They now have special food and a doggie dermatologist...

A lot depends on the breed. But these short hair breeds, specifically Bulldogs, beagles, basset hounds etc, with age tend to get bit by the allergy bug.

I used to feed him royal canine until a lot of started falling off, and like you, took my guy to a vet which then referred me to a bulldog specialist.

After 3 weeks of raw chicken daily so his coat would grow back, he now eats Canidae grain free (salmon flavor) and mix a spoon of olive oil to help keep his fur shiny. Still battle with interdigital cysts here and there, but easily curable with hydrogen peroxide and preparation H.

I can't help but try to ensure he's as healthy as his middle age self can be, and live a happily comfortable life

Ours are on Royal Canin rabbit and potato. They were initially switched to RC duck and potato by their "regular" vet and one developed an ear infection so bad he had to have his ear drum broken (which subsequently healed). We took him to the specialist who told us duck is too close to chicken and our dog is very allergic to chicken. (The other one isn't but we keep them on the same food for simplicity.). Together with daily fish oil pills and allergy pills + an ear solution he needs once / week, he is in great shape now.

They also share an ophthalmologist and the female has a cardiologist and neurologist. But I digress...
