humour me here for a moment: do you think there is a big difference between ymb and lsb? do you think there is enough of a colour/hue difference to spend $5k for the lsb? i'm really struggling with the value of spending the extra money for the lsb colour if it really is not that differentiated from yas. pix on the internet are hard to capture the true colour of both. as such, for those of you have seen both - any thoughts on this? (i currently have s-o/s-o ///m4 and lurve it - so much so - im thinking about buying 2nd ///m4 (in lsb)). i'd really like your opinions on the question i teed up above. cheers.

Whether it's worth $5k is up to you, of course. |

I'm in the Brandywine Valley. Chadds Ford, Concordville, Glen Mills area. Lots of BMWs in my area, but believe it or not, that was only the 2nd F8x I've ever saw in person. First one was an alpine white M3.

thanks, matt. good to know! (and - yeah - i know the pricing is my call and i should've stopped my enquiry at the colour differentiation. and ultimately, i'd spend the money if the two colours were very different enough not to be confused. because if not, i'd just go yas i guess.)

I have always loved the E46 M3 in Laguna Seca Blue, I thought it was the signature color for that chassis.
Funny thing is, though, I saw a individual M4 in Laguna Seca Blue at a dealership and it just didn't do it for me. It just didn't seem "right", I don't know why. That said I had already decided on the Yas Marina for my F80, and when I finally saw it in person I was immediately sold. I think YMB is this generation's "signature color", probably because it's in all their marketing and the headers on these forums. Likewise I think AY is the color to get for an M4. Either AY or SO for an M4.

At dusk or night, it looks better b/c the blue takes on a darker hue. It seems like many who post pictures of YMB Ms tend to oversaturate the pictures or make the blue look deeper b/c, the reality is, it just doesn't look all that good if you get the color and hue close to how it actually looks in real life. I've seen YMB many times. I wish I could really like it b/c that was the color I was shooting for when I first saw those BMW pictures of the YMB F80 on the track. It looked PERFECT. Then, I saw it in real life and I was like, WTF BMW??? Many people like YMB, and that's cool. To each their own. But, if you are already wondering if YMB gets you close to LSB, the answer is no way. They are very different. |

Personally I don't think their is any color "worth" $5k (or more of you want something that hasn't been done by BMW before) but that's why they are called options. If the poster above wants LSB I say do it. Whether it's worth the cost is a personal decision.

I was thinking about getting YMB because its a nice color but one thing that changed my mind is trying to match the paint if you get hit etc.. so i decided to go AW which is non metallic and easy to pain match..

Well, that depends where you live, when i lived in NY and you left your car parked on the street, you would get dinged all the time by morons that don't know how to park properly (parallel parking) and would scratch the crap out of your bumpers etc.. Don't get me wrong, i like the YMB etc.. but seeing the scratches etc.. would really piss me off..

You can take liberties with M colors on smaller cars. I struggled with this but succumbed to going with with Black on my M5 and glad I didn't do the blue or orange on a larger car especially now that the car is getting older. For the smaller M3/4, M colors all the way.
