De- Cat MPE.

Who's gone the whole way and removed the primary and secondary cats with an MPE fitted to an M4? Too loud or just right? Opinions appreciated.

I removed the secondary cats and replaced them with two short segments of straight pipes - for me it was to loud and the rasp wasn't pleasant.

I now have the fabspeed x pipe with the MPE and It's just right.

Honeslty I wouldn't decat the downpipe unless you are planning on performance mods.

I was running catless dp's with AA mid and MPE. Too loud for me, too much rasp and too much gas smell. Especially cause I'm driving a convertible.

Now back with stock dp's and AA mid with MPE it's just perfect. No more smell, no more rasp and sound is just spot on. Loud when you want it (sport and sport+) and quiet when you're cruising.

I was considering a straight-thru mid-pipe that would pair with my MPE, but have the same concerns about drone and sound. Given the cost of current mid-pipe offerings, I'm considering building my own custom mid-pipe. Shouldn't be very difficult, especially if I use something like the VRSF or Fabspeed mid-pipe as a starting point. The ideal outcome would be a mid-pipe with a double barrel resonator and no catalytic converter or flex section.

Below are pics of the OEM F8X mid-pipe, Fabspeed mid-pipe and Borla resonator.

For true sound quality without rasp, you have to keep one set of cats. Removing both is just to much for me.

A resonator is not a bad way to add depth and tone without rasp. Wish I tried this myself. To late now.
