Problems with Ceramic brake disks
Hi All,
First a lil info about my car. It’s a 2015 M3 Full equiped. Just added some Oem details from the M performance brochure when the car was ordered. It has now just passed 38k km’s, and guess what i’ve found while I was cleaning the car last sunday 🙄 The left front and the right front brake disk have been cut, or been touched or whatever by something. While driving i can’t feel anything, No noise producing or something. Whent to my dealer for some explenation and they told me that they have never seen something like that. Called my agent to come with a sollution, because a car that has just passed 38k km with this kind of problem isn’t normal. Hope the guy’s @ bmw Benelux(Yes i’m from Belgium) will fix this. Otherwise, i will take a lawyer to fight this. What do you guy’s Think? Ps. The guy’s @ the bmw shop told me Just to drive on, since the car has no troubles while braking. Thx for the help. If that's both sides (I think you say that) then that looks like a fault it looks to me like the material has blown out of the disk rather than been hit by road debris.

What Wills2 said. That looks like a manufacturing defect to me. Ask "the guys" if they'd drive their family to Paris with those brakes. I bet they wouldn't. And neither should you.

Looks like those would just keep getting larger over time too, additional pieces chipping off along the veins.

Definitely a warranty claim. Had the same on my C63... Mercedes warrantied the rotors. They were 6k each!!!
Over time and with significant track use, the ceramic rotors will pit. But you would see small pitting all over the rotor. Good luck with the claim! |

@CalaM4: did they change it under warranty?
@Wills2: Yes, both sides have this problem. Has been 2 weeks that I have heard something about my agent and the dealer that sold my car. If bmw will Not change the rotors under warranty... I’ll Keep in touch. |

Tell them you may be in the market for a new car and ask them for a trade in value (assuming customary there) to see what they say about it then.

I'm not sure what type of insurance coverage you have but in another thread someone mentioned their insurance company said it could be covered under comprehensive coverage with the cause being claimed as rock damage.

same problem with my disc. BMW refused to change the disc on warranty. they said, it happens when you brake hard till you stop and they can't cool down. i am driving since 6 months now and didn't have any problems. the new m2 Comp. gets normal 400mm discs. is it possible to install them without changing the whole brakesystem? |

The actual polished hair line cracked surface of the f80 ceramics is nothing I've ever seen before - and I have cars with gen 1 ceramics right to the latest stuff, none have rotors that look like that

It is my understanding they all look like that, including mine. It’s the chunk that’s missing that is unusual.

Most mileage I've done on a car with ceramics is 13k kms and they are still a matte finish with no cracks |

A buddy of me who owns a gt3 rs 997 has also never seen this. This week the case will be opened by BMW. The car needs to come in for a check. I’ll keep you guy’s posted. Thanks 👌 |
