IIRC SCOTT26 also stated that the current car uses a significant amount of carbon fiber which is utterly incorrect... I think the other flowery language with no reality was something like welcome to the carbon age (or some such nonsense...). Gotta love the marketing guys.

Did you read the press release? There is a significant use of Carbon Fibre , a lot more than the previous car. The application of CFRP is still in its infancy as the i3 and M3 have a close proximity but there will be progress once i3 is in full volume production. For BMW CFRP will be even more cost effective.

For the LCI, they should add a CF trunk to the F80 so it's not just an M4 thing.

I don't believe it is just a M4 thing, the only difference is the actual style being modeled after the CSL.

It'd be cool if they called that specific car "M3 Coupe"

Really? That would be awesome if it wasn't M4 specific! Jason/Scott, can either of you confirm if that's the case?

Of course I read it. Compared to the current car a roof beam, trunk and drive shaft were added. Not significant in my evaluation and not using any of the full CF body concept from the i3.

I agree with you on this. While the use of CF in the F8x is very welcomed it's more evolutionary than revolutionary. Not that I blame them given production costs.

BMW. If it is manual transmission only then me, an M3 owner, and with 7 BMW's in our family history will not be able to drive it because I use a hand control, as do other people with disabilities. Keep a DCT or whatever as an option. Thanks.

This is an enthusiast wish-list compiled by individuals who are disappointed with the new car but have not even driven it yet.
And it completely ignores the conventions of market.

One of which is the manual over DCT. Given its position in the market any progression will feature the M DCT as the GTS had to appeal to markets that favour simplicity over complexity even though it can be the other way around for other markets.

As we progress further with the M4 we will see further application of CFRP as it becomes more cost effective to apply which is significant because it shows a radical shift in the segment to introduce new technology but maintain that leadership especially in relation to cost application against other competitors.

The standard M4 is not to be overlooked in regards to fictional enthusiast pandering for progression. Have patience.

Besides there are other ways to celebrate an anniversary.
BMW Marketing only have themselves to blame for attracting negative comment on this new car. The problem is drip feeding little bits of info into the market and treating customers like kids. By the time the real launch comes along customers like me are already a bit bored with the car. I'm considering a M4 or i8 but am really turned off by the whole marketing process. The time elapse from initial presentation to launch is just too long

Maybe there will be a special edition for the MY M4 aside from this.

I'm with you. I don't think anyone was expecting the chassis to use any CF, since the development of the i3 is still so immature. But I fully expected things like the seats and hood to be made of CF, like the CRT, as well as the front panels and doors.

Hopefully the F8X successor will have a CF chassis/shell, but we won't see that until 2020.

Why couldn't I get the regular M3/M4 myself and strip out the back seats? Cost: $0.
Replace front seats with racing seats: Cost: Let's say $2-4K depending on quality.

Only thing that's tough to do is the door replacement.
