It's actually $4,450. 5k minus the $550 you would be normally paying for metallic paint anyway.

Hmmm, can you participate in the Individual program if you lease; or is it only available for purchased vehicles?

I'm waiting for someone to be brave enough to do a frozen Singapore grey.

I wanted to...but then I got cold feet and went with the safe bet, frozen black.

For semi-individual. For a custom color BMW has done before but does not currently offer through their semi-individual program it's $5k unless they have to do R&D, which adds a minimum of another $2500. People paying more than $2k are not "getting ripped." The price is the price, and isn't open to negotiation. As such, there's no "getting ripped."

You might want to check with your CA again about the accuracy of your SMB pricing... it is not a $2k individual option, it is $5k even for 2016 models.

The only Individual color options that are $2k are the BMW specified Individual colors for the M3/M4 such as Tanzanite, Pyrite, Azurite, etc. Any Individual colors not specified by BMW for an M3/M4 (even if they are BMW standard colors) will be $5k.

Trust me, I know, my SMB F80 is being delivered in less than a week and I forked over the $5k

He is in Canada (I believe), where the full individual colors cost $2K

In the US full individual colors cost 5K.

I believe you were in Canada or somewhere else? Maybe that accounts for the difference.

The price is still the price. No one is getting ripped off. The prices aren't negotiable.

For real? Not to be that internet guy, but can you provide proof of getting SMB added to your M4 order for only $2K? I ask as someone who has gone through this already. Either BMW's policy has drastically changed for MY2016, or you're being lied to in order to get your hopes up with the goal to be when the # changes from 2K to 5K you're so set on SMB that you just say, "Sure, fuck it."

*edit* - if you're not ordering a USDM car, then yes, the price is less than 5K USD. But then in that case, we're not talking USD, we're talking a foreign currency. My bet that is the pound, where 2K would be roughly = to $3,100 USD. Even more, if you're not ordering a USDM car, then you're allowed to add a la carte options - the ballgame is entirely different. Then again, walking in the door with no options a UK car is roughly 88K USD - you can keep your $3K individual paint for the MSRP differential.

I'm more than happy to provide my sheet to those looking to go down this line to argue the cost. I did nothing special regarding the quote, I did not, nor do not work for anyone special, nor did I use any special line to get the order.
Yes, please provide the sheet. Also - really, deleted threads? Can mods give a response to this allegation, southlight Dackelone ?

Interestingly, seems some of our posts have been deleted in another thread about this very topic.

I would argue the price IS negotiable or that the entirety of the US is getting ripped off. Paint is paint. It makes little sense that the same paint (or at least, the same situation regarding paint) costs X here, and X + a helluva lot more there. It's not a dealership cost, it's the factory. I appreciate they may have a slight upcharge for no reason whatsoever, but it's paint. The cost, effort is directly out of BMW AG, not BMW USA, Canada, UK or wherever else.

I'm more than happy to provide my sheet to those looking to go down this line to argue the cost. I did nothing special regarding the quote, I did not, nor do not work for anyone special, nor did I use any special line to get the order.

To be clear, the idea behind my posts are informational. If there is better pricing to be had, why would anyone just say, "Well, no, that's not right as it's more expensive," and leave it at that. Personally, I'd opt to go for the better deal, or at least try for one.
You don't have enough information to make that judgement, and there's no "arguing" that the price is negotiable. It flat out isn't. That's a fact. There's no argument.

It's your opinion of course re: being ripped off (let's agree to disagree that you mean overcharged, not ripped off) but you're being extremely dramatic. I don't think just saying "paint is paint so everyone else is getting overcharged" is fair (but you might be right!). There's a lot of information that goes into pricing cars, and that's information we don't have. Sure, the price is higher. Is it justified? I don't know -- probably just extra profit but I can't say for sure.

At a minimum, it seems that we're at the worse end of the deal though If that's what you're saying, I agree....just think your words are a little harsh. I certainly don't agree that we're getting swindled/misled/defrauded or anything.

If you really got $2k USD though for a non-production run paint in the UK, that seems like a no brainer to me as someone else said. I would do it every time.

With regards to the actual value, I'm keeping it in context with the thread, so in dollars. If I was talking a different currency, I'd indicate as such. I'm also taking tax out of the picture to keep it in line with US pricing given tax is always after the fact, not up front. With regards to the car out the door, it's actually $71,318.50 (exchange rate right this moment) without tax. Yes, still more expensive than the US, but we also have different standard options. But that's a little OT.

As for the a la carte, in this case, there's no difference. Paint is paint. As an option, it's still a one off color that's not dependent on any other option.

With regards to deleted posts, I've actually started a thread in the appropriate forum regarding another deletion, but zero response. I'll take that offline.
Thanks, yes, please do post. I thought the base in UK was ~~57,000 pounds, no? Agree, paint is paint. Can't believe the costs for BMW's own paints myself, but at 2K in the USA It's a definite no brainer.

*edit* - And, yes I've known UK individual paint cost is less than half, *EDITED, I FORGOT HOW TO READ* In the US, given the low base pricing, and sales-model driven options bundling, there has to be a way to increase the margins - that is the individual programs intent here. Well that and giving the chance to get a unique car.
