Arrow ED Delivery Date just confirmed but have questions

So just got an email from my CA with the reservation letter from BMW ED department confirming the date and time.

Here are my questions:

1) The date is Aug 29 which doesn't match any of the preferred dates I had provided (08/24, 08/31, 09/07). Is this normal for all three to be filled up and they provide an entirely new date?

2) Aug 29 is a Saturday. I thought deliveries only happen M-F.

Thanks.

Not sure about how normal it is on the three dates, but I guess it is possible and, given the new model year, may be tied to production schedules. None of those days are listed as German holidays.

Saturdays are generally available for ED. The BMW ED FAQs state:

Quote:
The BMW Welt is open to visitors every day from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. For those picking up a new BMW, the earliest check in will be at 8:00 a.m. and the last check in at 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the exception of holidays.

This is absolutely true. My first ED date was scheduled for a Saturday, and I requested that they change this. They moved the delivery up to the preceding Wednesday.

If you take delivery on Saturday you will not be able to take the factory tour. (closed) The factory tour is a must, if you've never seen it before.

I thought I toured the factory on a Saturday, but maybe it was a Monday? Museum is what is closed on Mondays?

See and I think its overrated.

OP - since your dates are aggressive they provide back alternatives. They do this when the dates you select are not available rather than have you pick 3 more dates and back and forth.

When I did my CA did it, we sent three days and in the email he said or something within those two weeks and they came back with a date that I had not listed,

Factory is only open M-F, Museum is closed on Monday's.

Germans take their weekends (particularly their Sunday's) damned seriously. lol.

Hell, even the prisoners at Dachau got Sunday's off. (That surprised the crap out of me)

My wife was dreading the factory tour. She generally considers cars as a "gets you from point A to B" type of thing. Sad I know.

She was absolutely riveted by the factory tour. Stayed watching the robots do their dance while the rest of the tour picked up and moved along.

Some may think it's overrated, but the consensus is that it's a "do not miss".

I'm in that camp, but certainly don't fault others that don't think so. If they have things they'd rather do, then sure. It's all about doing what you want to do.

Personally, if I missed the tour it would have been a loss. The museum on the other hand.......meh.

Thank you. My CA said he has requested 08/24 again. Apparently they they misread the 4 for 9

By the way, looking at the BMW website for Plant tours, it says this.....

BMW Munich Plant Tours

Monday - Friday 9 am - 4.30 pm

No guided tour on the following days:
- 01 to 05 June 2015.
- 03 - 23 August 2015
- 02 October 2015

23rd August is a Sunday. Why would they even mention that if they don't do plant tours on weekend? I am hoping that it is not a typo that is meant to say 24th because that is my exact requested date

My CA says they misread the 4 for a 9. So gave 29th instead of the 24th. HOw does one misread a number that is printed electronically

I'm confused how you provided (08/24, 08/31, 09/07) as choices. I was specifically told you had to provide 3 days within a given calendar week (no sundays).

Not that I was made aware of by my CA. He just said give me three dates and I did.

I did my ED on May 21st, and the three dates that I provided my CA were all in different weeks of May.

I think they meant the 23rd because this is a continuous period-- i.e. a summer break-- during which the tour is not conducted. Once I had my ED date (which is August 3), I wrote to reserve my tour for the same day and was told that was the beginning of a vacation period in which tours are not being offered.

Thanks. That makes sense. Guess I don't feel so bad not doing my ED end of August rather than early August

My CA sent over a fax with hand-written dates. The whole process seemed very 1993 to me.

This is annoying, because I was specifically looking for this information the other day. I "found" it on this page here: http://www.bmw-welt.com/en/visitor_i...urs/plant.html where they are conveniently missing August 3-23.

I see now that you got these dates from this page, which I'm sure are correct because I remember the summer being in August in years past: http://www.bmw-welt.com/en/visitor_i...ing_times.html

My F80 ED is scheduled for August 10th so that sucks. I have done it twice before so no biggie, but it really is an unbelievable experience to watch these cars be built by robots.

Yeah I noticed how they left that off too. My dates aren't confirmed yet. I'll either attempt to move them or coordinate the tail end of my trip back to Munich so I can do the tour.

That is indeed strange. I didn't plan around it because I wasn't even aware of it until today when I was really looking for something else. It turns out that my selected date is right after

Can't stick around till Monday. That would be asking 3 days in Munich. My plan is to leave fo Fussen immediately after the Plant tour.

Seriously its over rated, but if you must squeeze one in - try for the M factory tour in Regensberg. Not sure if the same black out dates apply.
