No, the mounting bolts on to an existing 'drilled and bolted' area underneath...
The plate comes with an adhesive strip for additional 'holding power.'

BTW there are 2 different mounts shown, the one that mounts below the 'front end' as pictured in the link I provided earlier, takes advantage of two bolts that are OEM for holding on a plate, the adhesive strip just adds additional strength to the attachment.

The only disadvantage of this mounting system is that it 'pushes' the licence plate out in front of the car an extra 3cm or so.... that sounds innocuous but if you are going up a very steep incline, like my drivway, the lower part of the front plate mounting system will lightly scrap on the asphalt when leaving or entering the driveway at the apex of the 'flat' street level and the driveway surface... Probably not an issue for most people, but just a 'heads up.'

I'm using US Millworks for my front plate. No more than one day owning the M3, I was pulled over and ticketed for no front license plate. Ever since, figured it's just not worth the hassle. I've been terribly unlucky with this sort of thing. I have to say that the exhaust doesn't keep me under the radar either :P

Somebody, perhaps I was speaking to them or I read it elswhere, noted that Richmond is a really bad place to not have your plate on.... Wonder why?
I've had it off for about a month, trips up to whistler etc... and no problems.
Maybe it's the burnouts in front of the RCMP station that are the problem? lol

Richmond cops will just dick you around for no front plate all day long. They like to pick on Asian guys with nice cars too.

Just noticed your post.

I need to be careful in Richmond lol. I'm rarely down there unless it's with my GF's family for dim sum or something but my car is extra full retard loud...

Cat Delete down pipes. MPE. Valves Open all the time.

With the windows down it can be a bit grating at times lol.
