Instrument Cluster went crazy!!!
The instrument cluster went crazy 30 mins into my drive. I really hoped that my second BMW would not have any electrical/mechanical issues. But unfortunately it looks like this would not be the case. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

Looks freaky! It could be a myriad of things, most likely a software error, but any other guess is good. You'll have to take it in regardless, Good luck.

Wow that looks crazy! Hopefully the dealer can diagnose and resolve.
One theory is maybe the dash was somehow trying to sync up a light show to the music you had playing during the first part of the video? : Seriously that sucks! I'm sure it will get sorted out.

I took it to the stealer twice. They said they couldn't find any faults and BMW is releasing a software update late April to fix this.
The other issue I'm having is that the instrument cluster is very dim! You can only see it in the dark! If the music comments were about my video, it was Clinton Sparks in the background.

Your software update may have fixed the problem, but it is also possible that it didn't. Since it happens intermittently, it would be hard to say 100% if its fixed. I've had the dealership tell me an issue on my previous car was fixed from a software update only to encounter the same issue at a later time.

I have had similar issues, check out my posts in this thread: here
Seems like in my car at least the problems are related/repeatable using nav in a particular geographic location. I have had 2 other people on Bimmerpost contact me and say they've had this issue as well. |

Count me in as affected by this. Mine did the reboot similar to the post above today. It is really disconcerting to lose all data on speeding and such while driving.

In case you guys missed this in the general forum. There is a service bulletin out about this. There is a new firmware available 58.3, which not only fixes this but also gets you a bunch of updates, most notably to the handling/traction control and suspension, which many people have been trying to get for free. This instrument cluster problem is one of the few ways that you can get the update for free.
