.

The base price for the E46 ///M3 was lower than that......49k if I remember correctly. As a matter of fact, it was around 47k. I paid 55-57k for both of my nearly fully loaded E46 ///M3's in '03 and '05.

The question in my mind is a relative one: what else can I get here for "M3/M4 like" money? On that standard, it is still, as I said, about the best bang for my buck (or loonie) around.

Not if the combined fuel economy is at least 22.5 mpg.

Calculation Technique

The Gas Guzzler Tax for each vehicle is based on its combined city and highway fuel economy value. Manufacturers must follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedures to calculate the tax. The calculation uses a formula that weights fuel economy test results for city and highway driving cycles (the combined value is based on 55% city driving and 45% highway driving). Fuel economy values are calculated before sales begin for the model year. The total amount of the tax is determined later and is based on the total number of gas guzzler vehicles that were sold that year. It is assessed after production has ended for the model year and is paid by the vehicle manufacturer or importer.

Combined fuel economy of: Amount
at least 22.5 mpg No tax
at least 21.5, but less than 22.5 mpg $1000
at least 20.5, but less than 21.5 mpg $1300 (2013 E92 M3)
at least 19.5, but less than 20.5 mpg $1700 (2013 E93 M3)
at least 18.5, but less than 19.5 mpg $2100
at least 17.5, but less than 18.5 mpg $2600
at least 16.5, but less than 17.5 mpg $3000
at least 15.5, but less than 16.5 mpg $3700
at least 14.5, but less than 15.5 mpg $4500
at least 13.5, but less than 14.5 mpg $5400
at least 12.5, but less than 13.5 mpg $6400
less than 12.5 mpg $7700

Even on new M5, upgrading 19 inch to 20 inch wheel costs only $1300.

Extended leather will probably costs around $3000 since it now covers dash and etc.
You could be right, esp since it's now Merino leather. I also have this sinking feeling the Exec package might be $4,500

No Competition package guys.
I know it's counterintuitive but extended leather is standard. Full leather is the added cost that actually adds leather to doors, dash, etc

No clue but they've typically released the comp package with or near the LCI for the M3

About what most rational people expected. Increase over E90 is pretty steep, though will reserve judgement until we see the full order guide. Seems like an F80 will go for about what a comparably equipped E92 went for (setting aside new/high cost options like CCB.)

Seems a good base price for you guys in the states.

If it helps I'm pretty sure the DCT here in the uk was £2600 and the full merino leather over £3000. Couldn't comment on Prif Nav and 19inch wheels as these are standard here. Making the wheels black on same 19s was a modest £120.

I thought DCT was standard this go around and included in base price. Am I wrong? If so, price is a steal.

How is this right. In 6th gear going 60mpg I get 21-22 mpg on a good day. Given that the combined value is 45% highway, and i get 12-15mpg in the city, how is the combined 20.5-21.5 MPG for the e90/e92 M3?

It doesn't add up

M3 = $61.5
YMB = $550
6MT = Free
CF roof = Free
Cloth = Free
LED headlights = $2k

So around $65k total. Perfect for what I want.

What I don't get is the large price increase of the sedan vs the relatively small increase for the coupe.

Similar to how I'll option mine.....except I'm still debating on going leather or the leather/cloth option (..I had Speed Cloth in my '05 ZCP and loved it). I'll pass on the LED headlights, and instead use that money for HUD/side & rear sunshades and Comfort Access. I'm golden.....especially now that navigation is standard; that's the only option I really MUST have.

Agreed. Was trying to present a realistic scenario for what majority of early ED takers will see.
