What's everyone's position on tinting convertible windows? Any photos here of examples? I was thinking a lighter tint than i usually get

Whether or not to go topless

My lease is up July 4 so I am getting closer to the point where I need to make a decision on what to do next. I haven't had a convertible since my first car in the mid 1980s (a 1969 Plymouth Fury III, as pictured below but in much better condition than the one I had).

I am giving some serious consideration to trying an F83 for something a little different. I am hesitating a bit due to the likelihood of paying a premium for car even though it will probaby be too hot (with too many bugs) in the summer to have the top down much. But the winters will be fun and it's just a lease I can turn in after 3 years after all...

I don't need real back seats and my wife has an SUV for cargo if needed, so space isn't an issue. I'm too big for most 2-seaters and don't really want anything more extreme ride-wise.

So, as I rationalize away, give me some more potential negatives to talk me out of it F83 people.

The sun reflective leather that BMW uses on the convertible seats is very effective. The seats don't really get that hot.

This will be my third BMW retractable hardtop.

Bluebonnets are starting to come out in the Hill Country. Great time for the top down, twisty road rides through the wild flowers! This is the true value-added impact of the F83......two years old and I do love it so.

Well guys, I've only been an M4 owner for a little over a month. I'd been watching a convertible for about 5 months and long story short, by the time I was in the position to buy it, it was gone. SO, I ended up getting an M4 Coupe. My reasoning was that the coupe is less expensive and "if" I end up not loving the car then I'd have saved some money. Also, I felt like this would be a good chance to learn the car so I got a stripper model, this way I'm also finding what options I'd like to have. At this point I'm loving the car and my plan is to keep it for a few years and see how the next gen comes along and if it doesn't blow my mind, then get a last year model convertible to keep and enjoy.

By the way, really like this thread and this forum. Reminds me of the old Eclipse/Talon forums back in the day!

It looks better with the top down than with a covering of white! Winter weather and summer tires meant a later start on day 2 of the drive home...

I had this lying in the trunk area when I bought my M4 Vert used. Can anyone show me how it mounts?

Hats

Ordered an F83. Live in FL and going bald (ok mostly there but still too much hair to mix with sun screen). Look forward to the car but not the combination with FL sunshine and bald head. Any hat recommendations other than baseball caps?

yeah, that's tough - so I have lots of hair, even so, if i'm out all day I can get burned where there's a part and I'll also get weird burn stripes from how my hair blows around I guess.

One thing I've done is use leave-in conditioner with SPF: Quintessence Q-Sunshade Leave In Hair Conditioner. The trick there is to dab it onto your fingers and rub on your scalp by moving your hair aside before you put it on your hair. So I pay special attention to my part, etc.

As to hats you've got two methods I use, and neither are great, but what's the alternative? Putting the top up? fuck that.

Basically you need a lanyard, the question is how to use it.

Method 1 is to secure an ultra thin lanyard to your shirt or the seat belt and whatever hat you want - then when it blows off you just grab it and put it back on. This is obviously a pain in the ass if it keeps blowing off. I use this mostly for long freeway drives where the hat blowing off is only every 10-15 minutes. Once I get where I"m going I just unclip the hat.

Method 2 is to use a safari hat and cinch down the chin strap - this is a bit better if you were going to use the strap anyway because when you slow or stop you just de-cinch a bit. I use whenever I'm around the ocean or hiking since i would've needed / used this type of hat anyway.
