Will the relative scarcity of the sunroof mean it's worth more on the used market?

Looking around. All I see is the CF roof. Is the moon/sun roof going to be a rare option to find in an f80 in the future for the preowned market? Will it add value or not?

Considering no one really wants it except a small bunch of people who just HAVE to have a sunroof, no, I don't think it will add value. If anything, it will detract most people from wanting to buy the car.

It’s rare because the cf roof is that much more desireable amongst buyers. F8x will continue to depreciate no doubt. Bmw m is no low volume player.

It'll be more valuable to someone who wants it. It IS a rarer option to find.

it can go both ways on resale, either someone wants it and therefore your car has a higher chance of selling, or you have more potential buyers viewing your car among the hundreds of others for sale

imo just spec the car how you want it, not for the next bloke

You can used the E92 second hand market as a gauge. Sun roof cars are less desirable.

When i was looking for used E92 M3, cars with the sunroof i didn't even bother looking at.

Like others have said, for sure there will be somebody looking just for a sunroof car, but most of the buyers will probably want the CF roof.

That's where you're wrong in my opinion.
Those FEW who value sunroof will be willing to pay a premium to get the car they want.

...I feel like mine is a bit of a unicorn...ZCP with sunroof and manual. I LOVE that combo and it took me 6 months to find a slightly used one

I'm ordering mine in SO with manual and sunroof. I would also go with cloth, but that would be too extreme. I'll go with black leather to at least go mainstream in with the interior.

My M4 is SO with full black leather and silver wheels - has a 6MT and a sunroof - doesn't fell any less ///M to me

Exactly the same here. When I saw any E92/E93 with a sunroof, I immediately skipped the ad.

don't get me wrong, I like sunroofs, but not when there is a carbon fiber roof option. CF roof every time.

In terms of value, few people are going to want a DIY roof. They want the OEM CF roof because it's an iconic part of the car.

From a resale standpoint, what I learned is "too extreme" is lack of back up camera. That was was made my F80 harder to sell.

Hindsight being 20/20, with 18s, cloth seats, passive suspension, CF roof, and no backup camera, my car pretty much had to be 6MT if it were spec'd for "resale" and not for "what I wanted" because I suspect the others who would accept and want the lack of creature comforts would also want the 6MT

As for the sunroof vs. CF roof, I expect the sunroof is going to be for F80/82 what the SMG was to E46.. most will immediately hit NEXT when they see the sunroof on this car

It's supply vs. demand. For example, there will always be more people looking for used 6MT Ms than available 6MT Ms for sale so the 6MT cars have potential to be worth more in the future.

OTOH, while sunroof equipped Ms may be super rare, there are likely even less people that must have a sunroof equipped M car so the M cars w/ sunroofs won't be worth more than CF roof Ms.

I disagree entirely. SMG was a new technology that was complex, new, expensive, and not fully ironed out. Heck, it eventually was abandoned in favor of DCT.

A moonroof has not really changed for years and there is no other way to have natural light and ventilation from above. I agree the market will be limited vs CF. But some will want it. To the vast majority of people, the only benefit of the CF roof is that it looks cool (and it does).

Yes the reason why smg is avoided is a technical reason and why moonroof is avoid is a "cool factor" reason. Regardless of why, all I was saying is I personally believe cf roof will be a key filtering criteria / deal breaker for many used buyers

(Btw, i bought cf roof for the 2" of extra headroom with a helmet on... bro factor secondary...)
