Rear brake splash shields (Rock Collectors)
Anyone else have problems with the rear splash shields not sheading gravel? In fact I think they store it just to release it sporadically to annoy me. I think they might be too small to let it the larger one that get in at the gap at the calipers.

Rattling Noise Vibration
Hello All. I know that you hear EVERYTHING in the GTS including the glorious exhaust. But I pulled out onto a clear strait away and floored the excellorator and afterwards for about 3 miles there was a noise that sounded like a screw loose or something. Is this normal? It was like a screw rattling or similar rattling noise. Any thoughts?

Stone or pebble is brake backing shield. Had this a lot initially with my M4 with ceramic brakes, also experienced this with someone's M3 with standard brakes. Idk why but don't hear it anymore, I'm guessing that the issue.

I know of a guy in Germany that made a mess of his rear rotors. Gouged all inside the park brake area, not good. I will see if I can find the pics, or maybe you do not want to see them

Just bend the shields out away from tire/rotor and problem solved.

What that ends up doing is allowing those tiny rocks to enter into the park brake area. I am trying to find pics of a guy that did that and it gouged up the inside of the rotor in the park brake area. This is a issue that requires a new backing plate design

There's a service bulletin for replacing the rear dust shields with an updated version that should solve that issue, it's unusual that it wasn't done on the GTS models already.

Dare I say the update didn't completely solve the issue?

Info that I got was any car produced before 01/17 is eligible if the owner complains about BAD noises coming from backing plates. New updated plates will be installed.
Probably only those with carbon or within a certain year range. That was all I was able to get. |

Thanks! Will push for this when I get the break-in service done in a few weeks. Definitely an issue. Seems to happen almost every time I go out.

Funny. I'm at dealership right now getting stone remove. I've had the recall dust shield work done. Before, they got in all the time, but you could get them out. Now, if I get one in, I can't get to it. Doesn't happen as often, but it's more a pain in the ass now than it was.
