I think it sounds pretty darn good, I bet it will sound better in real life.
Here is my old lady:

2007/140K N54/Regular exhaust with cyba quads and downpipes...Yeah I know its inside the garage and it sounds better (Louder) but it seriously sounds pretty close to that on the street.

The M school guys said they enjoyed driving it more for 2 reasons. Weight and more torque.
Both are obvious reasons and these guys are paid to say that to me since they know me and my buying history.
The car is beautiful though and the interior is light years ahead of the E90.
Wait. You were expecting a straight six to sound like a V8? Come on now.

Isn't that effing amazing that people call them selves enthusiast and yet can't figure out the sound of a i6 vs V8 and are shocked to see it's not the same? Wtf as if the same so called experts on this forum with the blind hate for the new M have never owned any other cars besides a V8.

He did write that it "obviously" didn't sound like the S65. The word "obviously" probably implying that he knew it would not sound like a V8. I think that the word obviously is very important not to forget when analyzing what he wrote

I left out assumptions in my post. So I'm not dealing with what he "probably" implied. He plainly stated that it's "sad" that it doesn't sound like a V8.

I just think that is ridiculous.

No, you assume that he thought it would sound like the S65... When he clearly writes that it obviously doesn't sound like the S65.

Just like saying that "a guitar obviously doesn't sound like a violin". Not meaning that I originally thought they would sound the same, in fact saying the opposite. I state that they obviously doesn't sound the same... And if I prefer the sound of a violin it would still be ok to say that it's sad that the guitar doesn't sound like a violin.

Nowhere in his post is there anything that implies that he thought the S55 would sound like the S65. He just states that they obviously doesn't sound the same, and that is sad (as he obviously prefers the V8 sound over a I6 sound).

Why bring a V8 into the discussion?

The E9x was a V8 and it's quite understandable that the sound of the next gen M3 is compared with the previous gen.

If you buy a new M5 wouldn't you also compare the sound of that to your E39 M5? As a reference?

The F8x is compared in every aspect with the E9x, such as performance, looks, engine, interior etc. So why not sound as well?

No. I wouldn't have compared my E39 M5 V8 to the E60's V10, and I never have for reference or otherwise. Now I did compare it to the F10's V8, and I don't like it in comparison. However, I do love the F10 M5.

So any comparison made between the sound of the S63Tu and the the S85 V10 has no relevance to you then

Bear in mind no one says the S63 sounds like a V10, just that it (obviously) doesn't sound like the S85... To me, such a comparison is just as relevant as comparing different music and discussing which artist/music genre one prefers, or how certain aspects of different music might appeal to different people. Or like comparing the sound of a flat plane crank V8 vs a cross plane crank V8...

Regardless, the onboard video here has a nice engine sound IMHO

Still a sleepy little town with a great beach-side atmosphere. Headed over to Cravings for some dinner tonight

Sounds really good. In another video with Bruno Spengler driving, it sounds deeper with less rasp. In that clip, the windows were half down.
I think this new powerplant sounds excellent. Much better than that close up video of the exhaust makes you think it would..

I think they were cutting out the down shifts to hide the rev matching feature of the manual gearbox. maybe it was not active at the time or it was not tuned well enough to share with the public.
