Trade in my Porsche Cayman GT4 for an F80 M3?

I would take into consideration what others have recommended. Cheaper daily, and keep the GT4. I just picked up a 4runner, as my parental duties have been expanding more and more as the kiddos get larger and older. The M4 sits in the garage.

My M4 is not in the same league as a GT4, but having a performance oriented vehicle as your fun car is a pretty damn fine option to have. The M4 is plenty fun for me, I can't imagine how much more amazing the GT4 is.

I've been trying to get a decent GT4 without needing to pay much premium due to its over MSRP market value. It's a hard to live with a GT4 if you only own one car and if that's the case, I'd probably consider giving up on the GT4. However, I agree with some that replacing your old e36 with a cheaper daily use vehicle might just be a better idea. Once you sold the Porsche GT car, it will be extremely difficult to buy one back and, in most cases, you will want get back in another GT car. They are that special.

Your perception of the F80 after owning a GT4 will be very different than before the GT4. I don't have a GT4 but my experience with a 991.1 C2S shouldn't be too far off. I loved my first F80 but always wanted a 911 so decided to switch it up. When I first test drove the 991, I felt it was down in power and was a bit underwhelmed. However, once I learned to drive a high revving NA engine and started to really push the car, the car felt great to me...then I took it to the track and was blown away by the performance difference and confidence I had relative to my old F80. Last week, I got back into an F80 because it suites my family's needs better - the F80 feels huge, much heavier than the 991, and relatively disconnected (I got used to feeling the road more and vibrations from the engine behind me)... and I now actually prefer the high revving NA engine. The F80 is a great all around package but it'll fall short as a replacement to your GT4 when it comes to fun factor. As an additional car, it is great.

I would not make that trade. GT4 is a special car - not your run of the mill Cayman.

Keep the current stable, save a couple more years and buy the F80 to have in tandem with the GT4. The E36 sounds like it's closing in on its last legs. I would try and stretch those out until you can comfortably afford the GT4 and the F80. Good luck.

I'm literally about to sell my M4 and get a GT4 plus an old car to DD that costs little to nothing. Keep the GT4.

Way too special of a car to give up for an M3, imo.

Either keep it, and get a GTI, Golf R, or 328xi as a winter and daily car, or if you do give it up, go big an get a PDK 911 GTS or something.

Depends on how you look at it. In Canada, the prices on the GT4 are outrageous. Personally, I don't think the prices will keep going up. In fact, I think the prices will fall considerably in about a year. Right now the GT4 is going for about 30-50K above the 2016 MSRP. I would estimate that the prices will fall to about 90-100K by end of 2018 since most of used ones are not selling in the used car market for the past 8 months.

With that in mind, it would be a good idea to sell and get yourself into a M3 that you can drive everyday. You can always buy a GT4 again down the line at a much reduced price.

GT4 prices will depend on the GT4RS I think. If they give the GT4RS a 4.0 NA engine then the GT4 prices will fall. If it gets a turbo the GT4 NA 3.8 will hold their prices and it'll be a classic (I think it already is)

A friend of mine sold his GT4 for a GT3RS, two weeks later he sold the GT3RS and bought another GT4. He said the GT4 was a far more useable machine on the roads than the GT3RS.

GT4 owner here. amazing car, and I wouldn't trade it to go back to an F80 (no way).

I don't think the market is quite that frothy. I think low mileage (sub 5k), well spec'd GT4's will go for MSRP. higher mileage cars will go for $5 - $10k under MSRP. there are a lot of dealers with astronomical asking prices, but that's not where the market is at (i.e. those cars aren't moving at those prices).

don't think the next GT4 will impact it much. if it is indeed an RS with the 4.0 motor, you can bet the increase in MSRP will be huge. as a result, the GT4 will remain a bargain for $100k. I don't see much downside to current prices because the Carreras are close in price (and much more common), but don't come close to providing the same experience or feeling as special. that alone sets a floor for how low GT4 prices will ever go. sure you can get a stripper spec for maybe $85k today, but I think it will be a long time before you see anything in the $70k range unless it has 20k+ miles on it (and these cars aren't driven daily much, so not many have high mileage).

I still think that for $90k - $100k, the GT4 is the best bargain Porsche you can buy - the experience is just that good.

I'm so glad you said that as I've just put my deposit down on a GT4 and collect it on friday, I'm now looking for a cheap run around like a Golf to be my daily with the GT4 sat in the garage.

So I started off with the F80 and went to a 997.2 4S and E90 M3.

I say you keep the gt4 and get a E90 M3. They are practical, with snows it's an all season car no problem, it's has space, it has all the tech you need, and if you're not getting on it, it is a very complacent car to be driven daily.

If you are putting few miles on the gt4 then keep it, Porsche gt cars are "investments". They do not follow the normal curve of depreciation and you're not financially pressed to sell, don't. The F80 won't do it for you, the only way I'd back to one is if I HAD to have only one car, and even then I'd think long and hard before selling my E90.

The E90 is one of the most underrated cars for the price at the moment, in my opinion. I enjoy my Porsche and my BMW for different reasons but they both have the capacity of putting a huge grin on my face.

You are carrying two cars so you have the space, you own a 100k sports cars so im guessing you're financially sound, your looking for some practical and fun. For half the money of a F80 spec'd the way you want you'll find a clean example of an E90.

Get rid of the GT4 before the next one comes to market. I think the next one will have a GT engine not a Carrera S engine and the values for this one will tank.

This is crazy talk.....keep the GT4 and buy yourself a cash daily car. Nothing like driving the GT4 after you've walked by it for a week or two in the garage.....Phil

There's no way values will tank, regardless of what new GT4 comes next. It's still a very highly sought after, limited production run, first of its kind GT car.

In Uk secondhand fetches more than list at the moment, and M4 depriciates alot. if its the same for your market i would sell for a high price on the GT4 and buy a secondhand M

I agree on your second point - I think the 981 GT4 was an experiment for Porsche, and now that they see people want a GT-level mid-engine car, I would assume the next one is going to get the full kit.

Most of the reviews of the 981 GT4 had very few nitpicks, but one of them was that the engine didn't feel as special as the rest of the car.

If the 718 version has a 9K RPM and about 400 BHP, it might be the best car we've seen from Porsche in a while. And that's saying something.
