Interesting, so on F82 they put in the filter and stick with CF drive-shaft?
I thought there was no room in there for both.

Thanks for the info.

Well, that all but guarantees that the M3 will never get the steel driveshaft. I do wonder about the M4 though, given that it will be produced for another year or two and it would appear the car cannot be sold in Europe with the CF shaft.

Very interesting to see how the current M team is "undoing" the feature that Albert Biermann picks as the signature prowess of the drivetrain. I suspect we'll see any CFRP driveshaft on the next gen Ms, much less any real weight reduction.

Watch from 15:20.

We are getting so close to EOP for the non-CS M3* that if they haven't switched over already, they might never do it and will just make them all CF.

*Multiple reports of no more allocations in US, no more cars in Germany, etc. What's the point of spooling up production of steel shafts at this point? It will probably cost more to phase steel shafts in and carry extra service parts.
It's extremely unlikely any F80 will have it. The F82 and F83 will once customer deliveries of the amended type certificate variant go on sale.

If it was built 07/2016 or earlier, you probably had differential part number 33108090479 and driveshaft part number 26117855000 (1477mm in length with included slip yoke).

For cars built 07/2016 and later, they came with differential part number 33108090480 and driveshaft part number 26107857629 (1471mm and without slip yoke). Your car likely has the later versions now.

Please note the differential part numbers listed are for remanufactured units. RealOEM lists new diff part numbers as well, but I'd be surprised if you could buy one.
in have the part number straight from the diff itself. 33108090480 as you said... i do not have the part for the driveshaft but most likely it is the part you listed.

Is the US market getting the particulate filter? Is it even required in the US?

What does filter look like and where exactly is it fitted on the car?

It's in air box. On top of the regular filter o have no idea why it is there.

M3/M4 to Get Steel Driveshafts Beginning Nov. 2017. Sales top 68,000 to date.

The filter is in the exhaust, like the other catalysts, and its job is to reduce the particle number on the emissions test cycle to under 6×10^11 particles per kilometer. The US regulates on particle mass, not number, and the S55 will meet the mass standard without problem so no filter is necessary. The reason the US regulates on particle mass instead of number Is that you cannot repeatably or accurately measure the particle number with today's equipment. It's one of the few things the EPA has been reasonable about.

Looking at a new 2018 M3 with comp pkg sitting on a lot, what’s the chance it still has the carbon fiber drive shaft? Thank you.

So are carbon fiber driveshafts still being used till the end of production of the F80? What about in the future G series?

Production is all but wrapped up if you exclude CS models and nobody has reported getting a steel one, so I cannot imagine them switching now.

The G80 probably will get a CF shaft as well. The driving factor for the change to steel was allegedly lack of space to retrofit a canister relating to emissions.

The should not be a packaging issue on an all-new design, so if BMW goes back to steel on the G80 it will be for cost/reliability/other reasons.

I'd say very good. You can have them put it on a lift and check it out.

Ok Graves.... im in Hohenfels! if you need Service your US Spec Car, you have to nearby choices Autohaus J.B Lell in Amberg. Never been in it but i have coworkers that have and they said they have native English speakers there. Also there is one in Weiden area Autohaus Graser as well as Lell. These 2 have service departments. Dont bother with Bavarian Motor Cars in Graf. They will just send you the the other 2 for service and their after-sale customer service is sh!t once you have your car and they have their money.

If you need Indy experience you have Moritz Motorsports in Wackersdorf. He also has winter storage in case you plan to store you car.

The biggest dealer ship in the area by far is AutoHaus Hoffmann in Regensburg. They have everything else the smaller ones do not and speak decent english.

The service in Germany is different from the states. Let me explain a little bit so that you know what i mean.

Say you have some sort of brake noise and you need them to check your car. The technician will check the noise and coincidentally finds a rock behind the rotor splash panel. He will remove it and send you on your way without testing everything else that could be the cause of noises. I have noticed that they are not thorough with their checks and you will find yourself doing multiple trips for the same thing. Insist on them road-testing and checking everything before you take you car back.

Dont let them plant ideas such as "the car is rough like that from the factory" or the famous" its an M car" excuse... Also, if you get a long term loaner, get a copy of the loaner/rental contract.

Other than that bud , good luck buddy and ill see you on the Autobahn...
How is Hohenfels nowadays? I was stationed in Schweinfurt 2002-2005, 1-18 Infantry. Hohenfels had some of the craziest weather I've ever seen. We use to joke that there was some kind of weather machine hidden somewhere on that base. In a matter of hours, it went from clear skies, to rain, snow then back to sun. This happened regularly over the month while in the box...

Hmm, interesting. Is that new steel driveshaft part number? Nothing really comes up on google. One site has it listed for 1400 Euros.
