Weight of Leather, Packages and Options
Dear All,
Seriously considering to move from F10 to F80 for its superior trackability. Now with that in mind, I thought to get the lightest version available. The again, if the weight difference is only 20lb or so, I wouldn't bother and add some luxury. So my questions: Is there any intel on the weight difference of Extend Leather over cloth and Full Leather over Extended Leather as well as Driver, Executive and Lighting packages as well as options. Will definitely get the CCs so that difference is already calculated but I am talking about all the other ops. Would appreciate any insights. H

There's been a few members and shops who have weighed different cars. If you were to look them up and compare the gas and options you should get a good idea. If you could update the thread I'm sure other would find it helpful.
Forgot to mention, f82 is ~50lbs lighter than the f80. |

You do realize that the CCB only reduce the mass of the car by about 14lb? Factoring that it reduces rotating mass, it translates to about 20lb equivalent mass.

Weighed my lightly optioned M4 at 3461 lbs. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1032062
Don't think I've seen one lower than 3400 lbs yet without removing the rear seats? Another debate is should you take the heavier DCT over the manual if it's purist track car?

This is not a track car. It is a car that can handle itself on the track. Huge difference. |

The manual is a 2 generation old Getrag. They're not spending any money on R&D for that anymore. The only reason it is available is for the complaining "purists." I don't see how it even is "purist" considering the fact that all high end race cars use paddles today.

Let's please take a break on the DCT vs. manual trolling.
Serious road racers have given their approval of both. As to the OP's query, such decisions are going to be personal. If you want a light weight car, get CCBs and LEDs. No HK etc. Get Akro evo, BBS FI, racing seats... To get a F8x under 3400 is not easy. If a F8x is your primary car / DD, then comfort considerations should be paramount.

To be frank, an M3/4 is far too much car for probably 90% of people who track cars. That's just a fact. I seriously doubt you, guy-on-a-forum-and-not-professional-driver, are going to get every last bit out of this car. I mean, if I'm wrong, go for it, but if not, why not go cheaper for something more track focused that you can use all of?

I bought all my ///M for good amount of track duty (16~20 track days per year). The DCT on my E92 performed flawlessly for 6 years and 100+ track days. I also got DCT on my M4 . |

And I'm going to go WAY back, but everyone poo-poo'd SMG on the E46 for tracking, but I tracked mine heavily for THREE years without a single problem. Just recently developed an issue (haven't had the time to fix it yet), but if the SMG lasted me three years on a car that was 10 years old at that point with over 100k miles on it, I can only expect DCT to be better.

But are you saying that you have never heard of people having DCT malfunctions at the track? It's just one more system to fail, IMHO. Quote:
Track whichever transmission you like, I could not care less. Sorry, if I somehow offended anyone by stating the reason that I did not buy a DCT. As yet another Miata owner, I have to agree. Everyone who enjoys driving on the track should own a Miata. They cost nearly nothing and take up so little room. |
