Back in the day... I believe the term Poseur was appropriate... in skateboard circles.... of course in Porsche circles the term " TURBO Look... " was en vogue.. Consider this " GTS look"

Did you find out about the seats? they gotta be electric..

I appreciate the ability to ratchet up the performance on the M4, but four versions of the same car is reminiscent of the Honda Civic line up.

Honda Civic
Honda Civic Sport
Honda Civic Si
Honda Civic Type R

Moving along.

This has to be the most beautiful M4 I've seen in factory spec; I'm cognizant of the GTS being a sharper scalpel, by a ways, but the GTS has always come across (to me) as being ostentatious. Maybe it's all of the bright colors, I don't know - I just see myself pining for a CS over a GTS every day of the week.

Well done BMW!

The price of Competition Package or even the CS package makes me want to look towards a full Dinan signature package!

What do you guys think MSRP will be on the M4 CS? I hope they come out with a M3 CS

the roadmap is different for the models.. And of COURSE the roadmap isn't printed

BMW already has created it's own product sales and delivery issues with people " waiting for LCI "

When customers WAIT to buy the next big thing... then that's not good for business.

Are you in the market for a new iphone 8? If you walk into an APPLE store anytime in the next 3 months they will tell you the iphone 8 doesn't exist or.. may be delayed... And they will keep saying that until they are taking pre-orders.

MARKETING 101 here..

Very impressive - it's the modern day CSL 15 years later

BMW for the past few years have been losing their way with all these "special edition" cars aka colors and bolt ons.

To see a ton of aero enhancements, weight reduction bits, lightweight race wheels with cup tires and that crazy interior (check out those door panels ppl!), glad they're really gotten back to engineering.

I think we are thinking the same thing - a standard interior or a sparse functional interior if for worthwhile performance gains. Unless you mean you like the panels in the current interior config.

Perhaps the M4 CS is the Porsche-esque GTS version of the F82?

So you end up with:

M4 (base car)
M4 ZCP (S version)
M4 CS (GTS version)
M4 GTS (GT3 equiv)

Didn't the CS announcement even state that this version was a "movement away from the track" compared to the M4 GTS? That would compare nicely with a 911 GTS or Cayman GTS.

The problem is that the CS doesn't follow that sort of formula very well. They've stripped weight out of the car, but on a dart-throwing basis - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how the car was "finished" if that makes sense.
I was wondering if it was a modification of the FORD or DODGE system..

FORD-

Mustang V6 ; Mustang GT ; Shelby GT350 ; Shelby GT350R
Focus S '; Focus SE ; Focus SEL ; Focus ST ; Focus RS

DODGE

Dodge Challenger ; Challenger SXT ; Challenger RT ; Challenger GT; Challenger RT + ; Challenger TA ; Challenger SRT; Challenger SRT hellcat
Viper SRT; Viper GT; Viper GTS ; Viper ACR..

or maybe it's modeled after Harley Davidson..

YES.. They did indicate that the CS is NOT track oriented and that it is below the " motorsport " line.. (presumably GTS and leaves the door open for CSL?)
The CS line is for higher performance than the Competition line... which is above the base M car.

I would change this a bit ...

BMW has
* BMW
* ///M
* i

///M has
M, M comp, M CS, M GTS
plus, ///M sells parts and design to BMW and i to create M-sport, etc

Mercedes Benz has
* Mercedes Benz
* Mercedes-AMG
* Mercedes-Maybach

Mercedes-AMG has
AMG, AMG S, and ?

and I agree that a roadmap would be nice, but I don't think BMW knows.

I think the M4GTS and M4CS are "minimum viable products" to identify the market before they invest in mass production.

You missed part of the implied subtle joke about Honda Civic M3s, but I'm fully aware that the same marketing strategy is in place with other manufacturers (Porsche Included - let's not start with 911 varients ), so don't fret.

So quick to defend BMW, take a breath man.

A lot of the time saved are from the Cups - maybe 10-12 sec. 3-4 sec. from the CF bits. Another 1-2 sec from mother nature and another 2-3 sec. from driver's mistakes. Plus another 3-4 sec from the "increased power and torque". All these are pretty conservative numbers.

No doubt nice looking car, but not worth the price IMO. It is more for those who MUST have the latest toy in their garage.

BMW is trying to convince those GTS owners that their money spent on their GTS is well worth for price comparing to the CS.

Not trying to open a can of worms if it is worth it for others.
Your numbers are off. Stock M4 was 7:52 or 7:50 depending on who you ask. This car is 12-14 sec faster, that's it.

Yep, my thoughts too.

CS has some extra torque, and depending over what range it is deployed it can make a measurable difference.

Maybe I'm just a contrarian but you know BMW is so full of shyt I can't stand it. If I see another f'ing car that comes out and talks about how exclusive it is to try to sucker me in, sorry not interested. What the heck is wrong with these clowns? Ford, Chevy, Dodge and many other car company's have surpassed BMW and all they can do is just keep turning out the same BS with a few modifications, some new paint, maybe some carbon fiber brakes, little more HP, and some bits here and there...then think that they can sucker us in?
Sorry Mate, e9x M3 was the shyt and just about everything else after that as far as I'm concerned has just gone downhill fast.
Maybe others will pay thru the nose for these retreads but count me out...
Don't forget that these guys @ BMW have hired the best marketing gurus who use psychological ploys to separate the fools from their hard earned cash. If you fall for such terms as "limited edition", "exclusive", only 1 of 500, etc. you'll fall prey to the BS. Most collectible items weren't originally sold as such, they just became more collectible over time because others weren't kept in good shape, had pieces missing, etc. I'm not so interested in how limited it is vs. how it looks, how it performs, and how it makes me feel when I'm driving it. My ego is well enough developed that I don't need to get off on all the adulation I might get from others because my car is limited.
