After punching myself in the face removing the knob I was finally able to unplug the shift knob light. I installed the raceseng knob with a factory boot and am pleased with the outcome. Shifts are definitely more effortless, especially 4th to 5th.

Looks good but the boot looks kind of stretched

I struggled getting my knob off (I usually don't have a problem with that sort of thing if you know what I mean). I read that pulling on the shift lever pretty hard won't damage the transmission but is there anything that could've gotten worn during all that pulling and tugging (maybe just my arm and some chaffing eh)? Shifts feel fine otherwise.

I changed the adapter to black one for raceseng knob and ever since that shifting has become notchy in 2nd or 4th gear, are u guys experiencing that for the raceseng knob?

No issues with mine. Can the shift knob really add notchiness? If anything, the weighted knob should reduce this as it helps defeat the resistance when going into gear.

I don't know if a shift knob can make the shifts more notchy, but when I added my Raceseng shift knob, my exhaust changed sounds. It's amazing.

Totally changed how the shifter feels through gears. More mechanical and less rubbery.

I don't miss one bit losing the illuminated shift knob. This is seriously a must do OEM mod for 6mt owners

Couldn't agree more. Who would have thought an inexpensive upgrade like that would make such a difference.

Would have been nice if the illumination could have been preserved.

If only they made it in a gloss carbon fiber instead of dry carbon look, hate that it looks different than the rest of the interior cf

I didn't find the M performance knob more weighted than the stock knob , so how could shifting be better ? Are the throws shorter?

Exactly correct but I can't explain, had the ashiko knob in my old M which was much better and and more weighted. I don't like this one as much

I'm not sure about the weight difference, but the material, form and weight all play factors. The throw remains the same since you retain the OEM shift lever.

That's just retarded; shift knobs do not effect exhaust sounds. When I changed mine, the main thing I noticed was sharper turn-in, and more balanced cornering. It optimized compression and rebound; I'm thinking it had to do with how it interacts with the EDC. I did get a realignment though (standard practice after changing shift knobs), including corner balancing...

To be honest the change in my exhaust tone and damper settings wasn't that noticeable to me after replacing the shift knob. But I do appreciate the huge increase in midrange torque and penis enlargement.

You are kidding right, improved cornering and re-alignment because of a shift knob change
