Where's the kick sensor located?

It's a cable that runs horizontally under your diffuser. I saw it when I recently swapped mine out. It still works with my new carbon fiber diffuser, but I have to do it a couple of times.

I was talking to 2 guys at the carwash today. They had a cool looking Mango Tango (color) Jeep and a Civic Si. They were asking me some pricing stuff and when I told them how much the CF diffuser cost the one about passed out. It is kind of a crazy amount, but it sure does look cool.

i just moved my sensor today so i could get the kick function back and it worked. it works 99% of the time now and you just have to get really close and kick slowly. I jut pulled it out from under the diffuser and tie strapped between the metal heat shield and the CF diffuser. Here are a few pics. As a side note i went back and changed the zip ties to black because i could see the white ones when standing way back from the car.

It comes standard with Comfort Access which is standard on all MY16 and up. Not sure about MY15.

Unlike plastic OEM diffuser sensor can't penetrate signal through carbon fiber. Separate thread on relocating sensor but my question is this. Why couldn't u drill small (un-noticeable) hole through carbon fiber at location of sensor and then cover with clear tape to prevent from getting dirty. Seems like a simple fix.

Got the trunk kick sensor to work reliably with BMW CF diffuser.

I have the BMW rear diffuser and just did the modification above except zip tied it a bit higher so nothing is visible. I noticed like the original post of this thread says if the 2 middle install screws are used to stabilize the diffuser to the muffler heat shield then the kick function doesn't work, take the screws out and all of a sudden it works flawlessly. I think the screws are grounding the diffuser to the heat shield or messing with some gaussian distribution/flux capacitor in the kick sensor (insert clearly not an engineer quip here) and it doesn't work. I tried inserting rubber and plastic spacers between the diffuser and the heat shield but the metal screw would still prevent opening. So...I zip-tied the center diffuser tabs to the heat shield (2 each) rather than using the screws and kick function 100% active. For the 1 time a year I will actually need it!

I looked at the link that Obardain provided a few posts earlier (thanks), and see that there are two sensors that work together. Since I am on my iPad I can’t resize photos to fit and share, it it looks to me like the upper sensor may be coming into play as well (interference from carbon fiber possibly). I am putting on my diffuser this weekend (rkp) and will check this out. Will share my findings.

That feature is crap - barely worked when my car was stock and decides to open whenever it wants to (sometimes when I didn't mean to). Now I have a diffuser it never works 95% of the time vs 50-50 , so I call it a win in my book

I have a question. i installed the Carbon Fiber Diffuser, now sometimes the trunk is opening itself when i stand behind the car. i think the carbon fiber reflects the signal as my feet should do. i cant understand it. i was not able to close the trunk. everytime i closed it, the trunk opened again (with turn signal blinking - which means the foot trunk release was triggered) is there a way to disable the foot trunk release completely ?

Thank you

YESSSS!!!!!

I've come out of a store several times to find my trunk open with no clue how it got open. So much for stuff being safe in my trunk.

The foot think hasn't worked since I put the diffuser on. I've also had the alarm randomly go off at least once.

Your hope/thought is that it will make it not randomly open?

I coded this and now my trunk foot release is complete disabled.
Its better it never works, than sometimes it works, sometimes not and sometimes the trunk opens again and again when i want to close it.

Just installed cf diffuser on '18 f80. At first it didn't work because I was using the same technique I have been using on my '16 f80 that didn't have cf diffuser.

Then I watched Status Gruppe video showing their diffuser retains foot trunk release. In their video, the guy's foot touches the diffuser! As a matter of fact his foot pushes on it. Went back in the garage and did the same. Voila!! It worked. Here's a video.
