The answer to your long drive problem is the OBD exhaust valve controller. I have one tucked under the dash and plugged into the OBD port and I can have the exhaust valves fully open, fully closed, or OEM style depending on mode/throttle.

When I drive 4-5 hours to go to a track event it stays on “closed” the whole time so I can enjoy the music and police alerts on waze.
Yeah this was an old post - once JB4 came out with the "open and closed" settings I didn't have issues anymore (and once I was able to turn off the Active Sound). Those two things really helped substantially.

It's amazing how once I turned off the active sound and I got into another F80 how much more prevalent it is then you would initially think. I'm all for "engineered sound" if its mechanical, but spare me the digital stuff!

I fully agree its time for a 7th OD gear.
