After reading this thread I am very happy I didn't buy used. My biggest concern especially with tuning a leased car would be engine troubles not being covered by warranty wether it was the tunes fault or not. But I'm probably more paranoid than most.

I feel sorry for whoever gets my lease vehicle after I turn it in. I might tow it back to dealership.

On the contrary, I take care of my leased cars as if I were keeping them forever. The 2nd owner of my lease cars are always very lucky. Always follow break-in. OEM or Dinan dealer-installed mods only. Always tint.
My latest 2018 M3 has full-front Xpel PPF and ceramic coat including the wheels. Don’t mind the expense as you never know if you might keep it. |

The second owners of my leased cars are the luckiest buyers. There's no difference whatsoever in how I treat my leased cars vs. owned cars. |

I've modded every one of my cars including my leased M3. In fact, it's so modded (full coilover suspension, full stereo system w/ amps and subwoofer, full exhaust, ECU tune, etc.), I decided to just buy it out since it would have been too much of a PITA to de-mod and sell everything.
I used to buy my cars with cash thinking I would keep the car for a long time but I ended up only keeping my last 4 cars for 2 years each. in 3 of the cases, I had to eat the full 8.25% CA sales tax on the entire purchase price which I never recouped when I sold the cars. So, I got smart and leased my last 2 cars and advoided the sales tax hit. I sold my last lease 2 yrs into the 3 yr lease and got back my full MSDs + $1K. My current leased M3 I bought outright. I see no difference btw leasing and buying so I mod all my cars regardless of whether they're bought or leased. Like most of you, I also take really good care of my leased cars because, who the heck would want to drive a beat up, ragged out car even for 3 years of a lease? Rental cars on the other hand... |

Not to mention that treating it like crap can lead to reliability and maintenance issues, for which you will be responsible regardless of whether you lease or own.
