I don't use it if I'm on flat ground, but any kind of hill I always use it. I do wish it had an electronic parking brake like my Jeep does though.

Better not to use the parking brake lever especially if you have been driving for a while and the rotors are hot. Obviously, use the brake when parking in a steep slope

On the M3/4, there is no issues in using the parking brake even when the brakes are hot.

the philosophy, which one cheaper to replace, the e-brake clutch in your DCT or parking brake shoe?

Sounds like it needs to be adjusted.

FWIW, when I did M School and we would come back from some lapping sessions they made a big point to tell us not to put the parking brake on.

Just shows how clueless some of the M school instructors are.

I liked the electronic parking brake in my S4 a lot better than these manual ones

Opposite for me. Didn't like it on my Audi, but maybe because it was a dainty little switch.

I still like the old school lever.

And yes, I always use mine before turning the car off.

Page 64 of the owner's manual.

M double-clutch transmission
Switching off the engine
1. Apply the brakes until the vehicle comes to
a stop.
2. Press the Start/Stop button.
The engine is switched off.
The radio-ready state is switched on.
3. Set the parking brake.

you should use the parking brake whether you DCT, automatic or manual.

set the brake before you put into park.

really important if you are on a grade.

FYI electronic parking brake there is no adjustment required , you just press the button and done. For manual parking brakes everytime the engagement point needs to be adjusted ,if you dont pull it properly most likely its not engaged and car can roll off

Electronic parking brakes use the main rear brakes to immobilize the car. The main drawback of this is that the parking brake cannot be used when the brakes are very hot.

A significant benefit of the parking brake on the M3/4, is that it is handled by a separate drum/shoe arrangement inside the rear disc hub. This means that the parking brake can be applied even if the main braking system is scorching hot (right after a track session for example) without the risk of putting pad imprints on the rotors.

I had similar dealer feedback about the parking brake. At the end of the day, if the tranny breaks, warranty covers it. Not a big deal.

The best part of this thread is that almost everyone has used the words "brake" and "break" correctly

If i'm being honest, I unintentionally do this once every few months.

My point is, I've never unintentionally started driving with the parking brake engaged.
