I would like to have HUD, but im not going to order exec pack.

-it adds too many things I don't want
-the only thing I do want is the HUD
-I think some of these other things like heated rear seats, headlight washers, heated steering wheel all add complexity and weight
-comfort access is not nearly as compelling since now all cars have keyless start, and CA doesn't open rear doors which makes it much less useful (m3)
-its far too expensive for what you get imo

As cool as HUD is, im gonna abstain.

Of all the features in ZEC, I could use most of them. But I could do without the sat radio. I do agree that that heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and headlight washers should be a separate Winter package so buyers in warm states don't have to pay for it. That would have made ZEC cheaper and increased its take rate.

huh? Why wouldn't CA open the rear doors? By open I'm guessing you mean unlock since CA (to my knowledge) doesn't 'open' any doors (you could make a case for the trunk I suppose with the foot swipe).

You can set CA to only unlock the driver's door if you'd like (when you touch the handle). I have mine set to unlock all so I don't have to press an additional button to grab stuff out of the back seat or let passengers in.

interesting, and yes I meant unlock

from another thread, f30 owners were saying that the rear doors don't unlock automatically. glad to hear this is incorrect.

Yeah, that's not correct. I just drove a F30 335 the other day and it unlocked all the doors.

The difference is you can't unlock the car from the rear doors on F30's with CA, whereas on an F10, etc., you have CA sensors on all 4 handles.

There are BMW car lines where you have to order a costly package to get LUMBAR SUPPORT! I believe backup cameras will soon be a federal requierment. So if have a bad back or don't want to run over the neighbor's kids when I back out I have to buy thousands of dollars worth of luxury items?! Seems like short term thinking on the part of BMW that generates ill will. The advantage to dealers is that they will not lose a sale because that one option someone has to have is not on a car in stock.

ok, so help me understand

I have CA in an f30, I walk up to the car with the key in my pocket and try to unlock the rear door. what happens? it opens or not?

Am rather annoyed by this bundling also.

I don't need any of the cold weather options, and don't care either way about HUD, but damn it, I need keyless entry.

This car will be my dd, and I've reached the point in my life where reaching into my pocket and pushing a button is just too much to ask.

I had a loaner car last week that did not have it, and it was like being back in the stone ages. The horror!

Based on Needsdecaf's comments, nothing will happen. There is no sensor in the F30 rear door handles which will detect the key and unlock doors. You'd have to get to a front door handle to unlock doors.

Like the others stated, nothing will happen. There are no ridges on the back door handles (..unlike an X5, for example).

I wonder if you are able to delete the headlight washer option?

That's what I was saying orginally.

Makes it less compelling to me

You can set it to either driver only or all 4.

The M5 is the same. All BMW's with CA are the same.

Just to be clear, we're talking about locking and unlocking, not opening and closing.

On a 3/4 Series, through the iDrive menu you can select whether unlocking the driver's door will unlock only the driver's door or all four doors (on the sedan) or both doors (on the coupe).

If you have Comfort Access on a sedan, and the option is set to unlock all doors, if you want to open a rear door that's locked, you would first have to touch a front door sensor to unlock all doors, then open the rear door. This is because on a 3 Series the rear doors don't have the sensor.

Can anyone explain to me why when I go to say, the UK Configurator for the M4, I get to choose nearly twice the options for interior styling (adel leather color options etc) than available on the US site - regardless of having addl modes it makes no sense that the single biggest market for M3/M4 has the least optionality!!! Literally 6 to 7 times more cars sold in the US than the UK or even the home German market. Really bugs the heck out of me as there is a specific color combo on the UK side I would love to order. If you look at all the other exterior options it gets even worse for US buyers. Am I missing something here?

It is more than likely to keep the number of possible ordering combinations as low as possible. This keeps per-unit costs down. In the US, where we have the lowest prices in the world, manufacturers must be very aggressive with costs in order to compete in the marketplace.
