MPE Cracked - need assistance

Hi All,

Long shot here.. anyway!

Recently picked up an MPE through forum member Ur_Up (Jefferey) from Brisbane.
However i have lost his contact details and am in need of a copy of the original receipt.

The exhaust is cracked in 5 places now after only 3 months.. pretty ordinary, BMW should be recalling these. They are failing due to a design floor.

I have reached out to him via PM messages over the last month or two but no response. I can only think he has changed his email address.

If anyone is in contact with him, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Can I ask two questions

How many km were on it when you installed it ?

Who installed it for you ?

Not entirely sure re Kms, however it was in good condition without cracks. It can only be 3 years old at most if it was purchased as soon as they were available in Aus. It really is a piece of crap!

Install was a local shop.. its just a straight forward bolt on, anyone with a hoist could do it. BMW are denying any responsibility due to the fact hat they didn't install it. My argument is that it's a defective product, installation is completely irrelevant.

I think they are warrantied for two years only anyway.

I would speak directly to BMW Australia.

It is a known issue with them. The installation issue and requirement for a receipt is complete BS from BMW.

If BMW denies you I think you are best off taking it to an exhaust place that specialises in titanium welding.

They may be able to fix and reinforce it so it won't happen again.

Just had another cracked MPE come through the shop this week.. no visible external cracks but it must be the baffles inside because it rattles a lot especially on cold start.
Hopefully BMW comes to the party.

That's surprising. Most of the forum examples are cracking at the muffler pipe interface.

Does anyone know a welder that can do Titanium in Sydney by chance? Proving elusive!!

Pretty disappointed in the dude i purchased it from, wont return messages. Don't know why, i'm not blaming him, i'm just after a receipt or at least details of point of purchase. He's active on the forums but refuses to make contact.. poor form right there!!!

Here's my cracks BTW.. note the cracks in the centre underside near the two dimples. It looks as if the titanium has been ground down so thin its just disintegrating. Just appalling.

Might get it looked at at every oil change or dealership visit
