Manual Transmission Clutch feels clunky at times
So i've had my 2015 M3 for about 2500 miles now. I've started noticing a clunkyness to the clutch, when it is depressed to downshift or change gears that seems to make more than normal noise. It's clunky and feels like it's old.
I have been driving MT cars for over a decade and haven't had a problem with any one of the clutches, esp. this soon. I'm not sure what's going on. I had the 1200 mile service done and since then in 1st and 2nd gear, the way the car feels doesn't sit well with me when I keep hearing mechanical noise and clunky sounds when I downshift. Very occasional i've heard a rattling and I don't know where it's coming from as nothing is dragging on the road from underneath. |

The uprated clutch will rattle a bit on clutch engagement, and coasting w/the clutch in, just as the E9X M3 did. It's the clutch disc springs as the disc moves (rotates) on the input shaft to the 6MT gearbox.
Other noises, are you sure they are transmission/clutch related? My 6MT F82 works smoothly, effectively (both on the street and during my first track day back in late April). As I mentioned, the clutch does rattle a bit (three quick rattle-rattle-rattles, w/the noise coming from under the car w/the windows down, when the clutch is pushed in (and if you are coasting w/the clutch in). Can you give us some more information/description? |

There's been some occasional rattling/scraping sounds, but I read on this forum that this might be due to other things occurring relating to rocks/pebbles stuck in between or something about the emergency brake line?
I'm taking the car to the BMW dealer tomorrow to see what they have to say about the clutch and stuff. It could be normal but it just seems to disengage in an abrupt clunky way and it doesn't feel that smooth as my old 135i was. |

Did you ever get this figured out? Mine seems to be doing the same thing at very low speeds, shifting from 1st to 2nd, you hear this weird rattle and slight clunk.

I actually get this sound from going from 1st gear to simply depressing my clutch. I heard this as I was driving away from the welt and never really felt great about it since

Man, all these posts on MT problems. Almost regretting on my MT build that's currently being shipped. Can we have some MT drivers chime in on their experience with their M3/M4. Thanks.

their not problems, just people arent used to a heavy duty clutch, and a drivetrain thats pretty much directly connected to the chassis so you hear/feel more than you would on any normal car

Well I don't know what all the fuss is about but my 6MT is PHENOMENAL! I will agree that the transmission does feel slightly rough in Sport Plus (M2 for me), but it's definitely not disappointing or off-putting in any way. The 6MT on this car is the smoothest and the most rewarding I've ever driven. Period.

I've experienced the same loud audible sounds coming from the engagement of the clutch, mostly when trying to put the car in 1st or 2nd. I too was wondering if it's due to the nature of twin clutch or whether it's something else. I haven't figured it out yet however the dealer says its normal. As far as the 6MT I feel like it's a gem of a transmission. Dot think I've ever driven something this good. The only thing that doesn't match the character of the transmission is the Sport Plus mode of the throttle response , seems like I'm always giving a little gas with the clutch still engaged , so I just keep it in Sport most of the time.

for me the clunkiness comes from 1st gear switching to 2nd if the rpm is around 2000rpm.
And i have also notice the rpm drop is different no matter how fast i shift nor my golden left foot clutching in. 1->2 [ 1200rpm drop at least ] 2->3 [ 1000rpm drop ] 3->4 [ lower rpm drop] and goes on, you get the idea. And i think the 1200rpm drop creates the clunkiness to the clutch imo. |

Gentlemen, the clunk you're hearing/feeling is not the clutch. Its lash from the carbon driveshaft. It's light and hollow, so when you disengage the clutch out of 1st gear it gives the driveshaft a bit of clunk since the drivetrain mounts are very stiff otherwise. Very normal, but does feel like its coming from the trans, since the driveshaft is directly connected.
You shouldn't feel it in higher gears.

I seem to be having an issue that most above have stated. Car only has 800 miles but the last 100 I feel that in SPORT coming off on first once it a blue it makes this squeal type of noise and always from 3->2. In comfort there isn’t any issues. I have a vid but it can’t post so pm ur number and I can send the vid of the noise. Any solution to this issue ?
