First world problems: Only in OC, send kid to private school in one of the best public school districts in the country, and "downgrade" M with other similarly priced vehicles. The struggle is real!

Just having a bit of fun at your expense OP.

The M2 leases are terrible so forget that. Same for the Alfa. Not sure about the RS3 but my guess the same.

I'd search Swapalease or leasetrader and pick up another M. You'll save the taxes and fees possibly and end up at a lower cost than your other choices.

If I can't score a good lease, that might be the way to go. The only advantage I have is that I have MSDs on my i3 that I can carry over to a new M.

You must want the internet to stroke your ego or something because those are not downgrades at all. 80k is not small chunk change. Had you said your 3 options were a GTI MINI Countryman or a Nissan Leaf, then we'd have a bit more sympathy. lol

A downgrade can be defined in various ways. Financial, class of car, brand, performance, etc. it's subjective.

Also, I'd say an m2 or rs3 is a downgrade from an m3. Those are both less expensive, and, or lower model cars relative to the m3. Im not sure about the AR.

Just continue with the m3. I just got mine two weeks ago and it’s the best decision of my life

As others have said, none of those cars will save you any money and all lease worse than a F80.

If you truly want to save money, get the mid-life refresh Golf R (the 2018's that just came out). afew nice differences between what your buddy has, and a great car for the money. you can probably lease one around $450 a month.

Not that you should ever take advice from Internet car forums but I recall my parents who struggled sending three of us through private elementary and high school telling me once when I was thinking about it for my own kid "you have to be darn sure that private school is a lot better than the public options before you pay for it". It was a easy decision for them, we were in one of the worst public school systems in the country (Hawaii) and access to one of the top private schools in the country (Punahou). In California, in a good district, it's hard to say. So many great schools and the private options aren't miles better (at least up north in my opinion). Good luck. I'm sure whatever you and the mrs decide will be the best for your family.

If leasing don’t even think about the M2C, current M2 residual is 51%. I don’t see M2C leasing any better, plus near impossible to get a discount. Current M3 residual is 61%. All four cars listed lease a lot worse than M3/M4.

Yeah. Maybe I'll just get an M4
