Transporting the M4
Has anyone ever used a car transportation service to transport their car to another location? Lets say from Detroit to Washington state?
I am going to WA for a week for camping and every year I usually rent something from Turo or something sporty from Avis or Hertz. This year all the rental options are shit. I am thinking how cool it would be to ship my F82 and ship it back. One company quoted me $1,300 for one way. Is that about right? Does anyone have any recommendations? Is it possible to get a round trip for $1200 and under? Lost on this topic and don't know where to begin, looking to see if any of you stellar people have any recommendations. |

Sounds a little expensive to me however it is a deep drive and the north has less transporters going through there. Call Bob, he is a logistic operator out of Texas. Has saved me a lot of money over there years. Maybe he can help. 817-557-4130

I shipped my last car from So Cal to Denver a few years back, and it was about $950 one way. MI to WA is a longer drive, so I don't think $1200 round trip is going to happen.
One other thing to keep in mind is cross-country transport will take at least a week each way...so you'd be without a car a week before your trip and a week after.

IMHO you should go cross country at least once in your life in an ///M. I've done it several times. Take I-80 and not I-90, go a bit out of your way by visiting Grand Tetons NP/Yellowstone NP via US26 (NE/WY) Grand Island, NE to Spokane, WA can be comfortably done at triple digits complete with twisties - it is here you will really appreciate a side of ///Ms you didn't even know existed. Just sayin'

Sounds like a good thought, but logistically risky. A lot of variables in getting your car out there on time and back to MI. Maybe that rental Nissan Altima won't be that bad...

I shipped my car from Ohio to Seattle for about $1000 last December. Took 3 and a half days to deliver it.
I do agree with Rvacha... I've driven from Atlanta to Seattle twice.. (once in my old E46 M3) and it was amazing. The Dakotas, Montana and Idaho are stunning. Totally worth it and my car came through completely fine. I highly recommend it. Incidentally my e46 ended up way less dirty on the drive... My F80 on the truck was disgusting when it rolled off. |

Not the same part of the country but I shipped my car from ATL to Chicago for $600 1-way to get all the work done by IND. company name was direct express auto transport, it was an enclosed trailer too.

I appreciate everyones feedback. In the end yesterday found a car on Budget for 750 out the door for the 6 days. Its a Ford Mustang lol, I was about to go with a car from Turo 2013 S6 but then I saw that Budget adverstised the Mustang or similar as a manual, and 19 mpg, so must be the 5.0., that would be sweet. I like Turo but I have a problem with range anxiety.
I agree with everyone, I do need to take a cross country trip and I really want too. Next summer I will plan on something like that. The only issue I have with it is the drive back, if I drive CC to Seattle from Detroit, it will be beuitful and amazing, then I will drive around WA for a week, then I wont feel like driving the 30hrs back to Detroit. lol, I guess I could do the car one way. |

I think it's a good thing to occasionally drive a worse car for a week. It just makes you appreciate your car more when you get back to it

I love driving cross country. Have done it in cars, and on motorcycles. The country is beautiful, amazing, and inspiring to see in person. Don't fly and ship your car, drive it out there and back. Select special places to see while in route. I highly recommend it!
