In the accessories section of this German document (see p17), I don't see any mention of racks on sunroof models only, but my German is not that good.

Perhaps there is hope for CF roof cars?

True, no mentioning in the accessories list. But please look at the main price list on page 48 (p 25 of pdf) the 3rd footnote says: Dachträgervorbereitung nur in Verbindung mit der Sonderausstattung Glasdach.

in English this means: roof rack support only in combination with optional equipment sunroof

Thanks curehead.

Disappointing and seems unnecessary unless, as one picture suggests, they use the rack mounting spot to bolt the CF roof to the steel body.

Um, so how about someone with an E92 CFRP roof open up their little doors and tell us what they have in there? I had an E90 so no idea about the carbon doodads.

Here you go ('08 E92). Difference is the bolt is threaded in the center to accept an external attachment. Would not be too hard to replace the F82 bolts with these, but perhaps the steel structure underneath has been lightened and won't accept the forces of roof racks.

Very interesting. The F82 looks to have carbon fiber under the trap door while the E92 does not. Thanks for taking a pic.

It's carbon and plastic according to the info I have seen, perhaps that's why no roof boxes.

Pointless comment. Why not? The M3 is a GT car, and a roof box basically means you can now go on long road trips quite comfortably without filling the trunk and back seat. Camping stuff on top, people in the back seat.

Mine is lined with the same plastic as the trim strip cover, but I'm sure there is CF under that bonded to metal.

But if you look at the photo in post #24 you see that the CF roof mounts to the metal side rails, so there is metal underneath to support weight. Only difference between it and the E92 from what I can see is the cross braces are CFRP now instead of metal, but that's not where the weight is supported.

Definitely need more info on the roof mount situation. If I am not going to have a convertible, then I definitely want the option to use the roof for cargo. I'll skip the CF roof if it precludes the use of a roof mounting system.

Its not coming with a towbar either....

The only way is to start a petition now for carbon roof with rack support!

The OEM F30 tow bar will almost surely not fit due to the exhaust. Aftermarket tow bars will have the same issues. I think some people may have gotten the E90 one to work on the E90 M3 by going with an aftermarket split exhaust. But I don't want all that hassle, especially since I am not a fan of hitch mounts to begin with.

100% same situation I am in.....it's even opened me up to other colors (Black) believing I now won't have cf roof with cool contrast to light colors.

Is it possible to get steel roof but delete the moonroof? I don't see that as an option in the ordering guide.

There are other ways to attach support systems. The F8x market is not big, but surely one of the aftermarket providers (Yakima etc.) will find a way.

3 series are at their best with a board on top...

Good to see the E90 335i still in service there, doc. Over 100k miles? Nice to see you here on the F8x forum.

I'm sure you're right about aftermarket racks for the CF roof. I'd still prefer the OEM rails. If the CF roof does rule out the use of OEM brackets, it sure would be nice to know why.
