SA can't make changes to my order?

So I received a call from the sales manager on Saturday and he provided me with the 2018 M3 ordering guide. We talked and went over the specifications for my car. I opted for an individual color and DCT with some other things. It allowed him to put in an order and I received a production number today. When I called about the production number, BMWNA told me the car that got approved for production was mineral grey and MT. I called the manager and asked him what was going on and he told me he was unable to change the specifications on the car right now. Is he screwing with me?

Depends on the status code, what your dealer will admit or what you have in writing. Call BMW and find out what status your car is in. If it is status 150, the car can't be changed. Either way, sounds like you and your dealer need to have a conversation.

I thought someone posted the ordering guide, and it indicates production for 2018 M3 starts on July 20th 2017.

I am not going to argue with car status 150 being locked (can't change options etc) but why would BMW lock an allocation for a car that start production still 5-6 weeks away?

Maybe it is too late to get the individual paint into the system for this car.

AFAIK adding individual options to a build locks it immediately. It's possible your changes went in, but the specs haven't been updated in Genius' systems yet.

FWIW, my car had the wrong specs on the website for a week or two after my order went in (not individual though).

THIS. Once an individual order is placed and accepted it is locked PERIOD. When I ordered mine I specified DCT. Next day I changed my mind and wanted manual. Was told it's locked and cant be changed.

How long does it take for an individual color to be "accepted"? My production # is currently in status 112 and was accepted with the specs I wanted. Then my SA requested the individual color and still haven't heard back about it.

Do you mean priority 1 (one of the 4) individual colors, or the truly special order colors?

It's one of the special order individual colors, not priority 1 from the ordering guide.

Gotcha... expect that to add around 6 weeks to the build time from what I understand. As for time for acceptance, is it one of the colors they've done in the past (youv'e seen on other M3s) or is it a totally new color they've never done before? You said special order individual color, so I'm sure it'll be sooner rather than later but I dont know for sure. someone else will chime in I'm sure.

I did a priority 1 Tanzanite, and it was accepted same day the order was placed.

Yeah, they've done this color before. I've seen it around on the forums, which actually pushed me to get it. Hopefully it goes through soon!

Not to go too far off topic, but, how do you like it?

I was considering a C63s Coupe.. (not sedan)... but its a little pricier than the M3... maybe once this lease is up.

If the individual color you requested has not been done before and this is the first time BMW does this it takes 2 weeks for them to do "research" on the feasibility of doing this. There's a 2K fee that is non refundable for this "service". If the color has been done before by BMW then it's a matter of getting the request and changning your order. Once the order has been received and accepted it is locked immediately and you can't change a single thing in the order. This was my experience at least.

This is my experience as well. If you're ordering a true Individual paint ($5,200+) and/or true Individual options, you'd better have your option list right when your CA submits the request to BMWNA, because once a production order car is modified with Individual paint and the order is accepted - that's the car and options you're getting. No changes. You can add or change port-installed options later, assuming you are not doing European delivery.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but it seemed most relevant to my question. I placed an order for a tanzanite blue/amaro brown M3 with a dealer who did not yet have an allocation, so I'm in the order bank. I knew this going in.

I've since found another local dealer offering a similar price, who says that they have a 111 that can still be changed. I asked the first dealer about canceling my order based on this, and he said that since tanzanite and amaro technically fall under the Individual category, even though they don't require actual approval the way a special order does, modifying the 111 build would bump it back to a 047 in the second dealer as well. Is this correct, that I can't walk out of a dealership with a verified build/production number if ordering a car with the priority 1 "individual" colors?

Thanks
