Mods performing ?creative?edits

What?s the deal with mods doing creative edits, for lack of a better term?

Twice I?ve had edits done on a couple of threads that detract from my intent.

I?m not writing for a newspaper. It doesn?t need to be polished for a thesis.

The most frustrating thing about forms such as these are the multitude of duplicate threads, going off topic, and a general mess of things, yet there?s time to become editor?

What gives?
