Amsterdam Drop Off

Was contemplating dropping off in Amsterdam and had two questions:
1) does this help / hurt or not affect time to deliver to West Coast? My thought is it might help as it has to get on a ship and am closer it would seem?

2) Is driving in or around Amsterdam a nerve wracking experience? Was there long ago without a car and recollection very narrow streets etc. Thanks.

Dont know about 2. But as to No.1. Yes it may effect it by about a week. When you look at the BMW ED page or the FAQ it says it can delay shipping up to a 1 week when you drop it off at a port outside of Germany. Not sure why, but thats what it says.

Yeah on drop-off could help or hurt as Amsterdam is near Bremerhaven.

As for driving in any major western European city, yeah it could suck. Small streets, construction, GPS will not be totally correct, sometimes people see bumpers as interactive components of your car, you can get keyed, your car or parts of your car stolen, and more! It's quite exciting.

That said, I've driven Amsterdam a few times with no problems compared to Paris Milan or anywhere in Germany or Switzerland which are great

Driving is no issue in AMS, but parking is a challenge (especially in the central business district or near central station).

Leave your car at the hotel and use the tram or train around town. Be sure to check on parking availability and parking cost at your AMS hotel.

I didn't have any issues driving the streets of Amsterdam. I did have issue with the 65 Euros per night the hotel was charging for parking. But it's expensive at any hotel in amsterdam to park the car. I kept the car at the hotel and took public transportation while there.

As far as dropping off in Amsterdam, it could delay it a week or more. Once the car is dropped off there, it could take some time for a car transport to fill up before they truck it to Bremerhaven. I decided to drive the car myself from Amsterdam to Bremerhaven, took about 4 hours. After being in Belgium and Netherlands for several days, it was an awesome feeling getting back into Germany and the no speed limit sections of the Autobahn. Stick to the speed limit in Belgium and Netherlands!!

I dropped off mine in AMS at my ED last June. I have no problem finding the drop-off location. The drop off process took less than 30 minutes, and they called a cab in advance for us to get a ride back to city center. In regards to the re-delivery time in West Coast, it did take additional days to get on a truck to Bremerhaven. It took total 10 weeks for mine from drop off to re-delivery. I am located in socal if that helped with the re-delivery time.

I have no problem driving in Amsterdam at all. Agreed with others the parking in the city will be a challenge, so I just got well use of the public transportation. You don't need a car in the city of AMS.
