Ordered F80 a week ago but no production number yet

Hi guys. Been stalking this forum for a couple years waiting to order my M3 which finally happened and gave my deposit a little over a week ago. My CA says he doesn't have my production number yet. Is this normal? He says he's looking into why, I just don't know if this is a delay tactic or not. BTW love this board definetly used it to research exactly what I wanted.

If you have no production number he doesnt have an allocation. Period. Basically he is delaying to try and find one. I would email a few other dealers and ask around for an allocation. Your first question should ALWAYS be - Do you have an allocation? If they say anything other than yes, move on.

What Thescout13 said. No production number = no allocation. BMW is selective with which dealers receive M3 allocations (vs. more common models), so you could be waiting weeks or months - they may never receive an allocation. Shop around.

No worries. If you go back and look at my historic posts when I first joined you would see a similar novice. It will come in time. Welcome to the forum!

Also really good advice ^ +1. If you have a relationship with them and you are okay rolling the dice for a good deal then stay, dont let us sway you. However be aware that allocations for M cars are very unpredictable sometimes they get none

+1. I have a really good relationship with my dealer. When I was looking for allocation for my June ED in February last year, I was told no allocation were available and had to wait for March. When March come, my dealership didn't have an M3 allocation, but they were able to ask for one from the region manager.

Keep looking around other dealerships as allocation is very limited. You may wanna try out of state as well. Good luck!

The most important thing is to be proactive. Don't wait for an allocation to come to you. Don't leave without a production number. Don't trust you CA, you may think you have a good relationship and a deal you like. Then the incentives change in the next month and that deal goes bye bye.

Research what people have paid recently and tell them that's what you will pay. Find a dealer that will get it done. Getting an M is not like buying a Corolla. These are attainable dream cars and they can take some effort.

Your CA ganked you. He doesn't have an allocation. Call around to other dealerships to see which ones have an actual allocation, and go from there.

Even a small dealers in my area has allocation for ED on M3 let alone US delivery.
How small is that dealer in Illinois? or are you told they can get you one at invoice but now yank your legs around with "no allocation" game? been there done it

Relax everyone. Give your dealer a chance. Your order is in the order bank in 047 status, which means order accepted but with no production spot confirmed. BMW USA will either fill that order or your dealer will swap with another dealer for their allocation to fill yours. BMW usually hands out allocations the first week of every month so if your dealer doesn't have an allocation now, he is looking to see if BMW fills it next month. This is common.

Are the 2018 M3s available for order now? Didn't they stop production from Feb 2017 for a bit?

You could always ask the GM or GSM.

How are you so sure about this? OP did not say he had a VIR or was told his status number. Ive had dealers take my deposit and refuse to give me a VIR or show me that it its in the system as a 047 because it was not. Many dealers or CAs do not just put it in the system without an allocation. I know that you know what you are talking about but I did not get this impression from OP. Maybe you got something from his post that I did not. Sorry for any confusion then

2018s have been up for order since beginning of June with production starting for some since late June.

Have you looked/asked if your exact build of your M3 is actually sitting on another dealers lot somewhere in the US? This is what I did and shockingly MY17 was sitting on a lot 7 miles from me with 15 miles on the OD! I got a much better deal by buying the one on the lot than which was given to me by another dealer for order (hence the power of walking away from a deal).

Problem for me is I want the 6 speed which has been difficult to find. If I was going dct I likely would have purchased one by now. 6 speed with comp package and full leather is hard to come by. I'm willing to be patient to get what I want.
