I believe this would be 33.4mpg and 30.2mpg respectively, assuming US gallons.

In real slow city / village driving I was getting about 15mpg, not much heavy throttle either. But damn, on the Autostradas it was pushing over 30mpg at 130 kph, and 24mpg at 200+ kph. Overall 1129 miles, 40.4 gallons. I guess I babied it a bit for break-in.

How's your fuel economy?

So after a couple of weeks of wonderfully enjoyable ownership I by accident scrolled to the fuel economy display and to my surprise my economy is exactly the same as my E92 (16.8 US mpg). I realize that the car is a little less efficient while the engine is loosening up but on the other side of the equation I'm holding my shifts to below 5500 and certainly not driving it very hard.

I thought part of the reason for BMW moving to the new smaller 3L inline 6 turbo engines was improved economy? (As well as emissions) so its kind of confusing to see kind of poor mpg numbers - And yes I totally get that we do not buy these cars for their fuel economy, this is more of an observation then a complaint!

In full disclosure I live on the side of a volcano at 1200 feet (Yes I know) so my fuel consumption is always going to be poor in comparison to someone driving on the flat but its the identical number to my E92 that floored me.

Whats every one else seeing in terms of economy?

I live in FL so flat roads and Ive been on a few 250-300 mile drives at about 85-90MPH on the highway and i averaged about 24MPG. In the city I've noticed if I let the car shift I get about 21-22mpg. When i use S mode and do my shifting for the entire week i get about 18ish. I have a heavy foot most of the time so the flat roads in FL are probably the only thing contributing to decent numbers.
I think the big difference between E9xM is that this car has more power and torque so if you are seeing the same numbers thats actually a good thing.
I sometime find myself thinking about the gas i use with my heavy foot but i quickly discard that thought because you are 100% right about gas mileage..i could really car less in a car like this.

I gotta say I haven't checked once. Some of it has to do with the current price of gasoline and some has to do with my Infiniti. After driving that 5600 lb SUV nearly everything sips like a prius afterwards.

I'm in the minority here, but I want oil prices to go back up, and fast. Yes I'm in the business but I'm also looking at the stock market and my IRA and see them both reacting in a negative way. If you want someone to blame, look at the Saudis. We can blame them for so much more..

And what a cool car to drive in Hawaii OP! Wife and I rented a base Mustang Convertible during our trip there and still loved driving around the islands. Enjoy it.

Stable average through ~5k miles at 16.5 mpg which is 1 mpg better than my E90 M3 with the same mix of driving. I did a lot better on my Euro Delivery with +20 mpg but that was a lot more hwy driving. Power requires energy, energy is solely from gas in this car. You use the power, yo use the gas. Losses tends to be greater at high rpms thus the S65 drinks a bit more. Other factors play a role as well but that's the basics.

I only have just crossed 500 miles barrier but took it on a 275 mile trip last weekend (have to speed up the time to 1,200 ) and averaged 25.2 mpg at an average speed of 70.2 mph.

I don't think that's too bad considering what the car becomes with a little extra pressure from the right foot and a flick of the M2 button

I do 95% city driving and usually get about 300 miles per tank. I always fill up right when the gas light comes on, so about 13.5gal are added of fuel.

Long story short... I get about 22mpg city.

Well it looks like you guys are for the most part seeing the kind of numbers BMW is claiming... That will teach me to live on the side of a volcano

Point taken reading the E92 comparison, I guess considering the power and torque upgrade it would be greedy to expect a lo more gas milage saving.. I assume the emission savings are however substantial!

I drive like an asshole every time I get in the car so my mpg sucks but the ride is too fun to care.

+1, 3500 miles and 22-23 mpg on tier one 93 octane gas with mixed highway and city driving.

I did average nearly 31 mpg in efficient mode and D1 from the PCD in October on 91 octane gas.

Go figure...
