But the point remains, the GTS retains the same front and rear track width as the base M4.

You're absolutely right! You clearly need to add a second, inverted star to complete the picture.

But I only kid.

With the holiday season in mind, I think the 666M, despite the numbering used in its designation, more closely represents the Star of Bethlehem than the Star of Satan. Or at least that's the story I am sticking to.

How can it retain the same track width when it's half an inch wider, both front and rear? Even though it has the same offsets as the base M4, it will still be wider due to the increased half inch.

Track is measured in the middle of the wheel, so wheel width has no impact on track width but offset does .

I actually love the wheel/rim design! It is a classic BMW M spoke design with a modern outlook. It is the two-tone paint/finish I feel people are not liking. I would like to see them in a solid finish. Fully polished, or to match the color of the car, and of course my personal favorite satin-BLACK!

I have to admit, I've been pretty vocal about how I don't like these rims, but over the past 2 weeks, I've really warmed up to them. Still wish they were more concave though.

At least you can't say that they aren't interesting to look at. There's also a chance they will also look better in person. Either the original ZCP silver finish or satin black would look good on Signal Green. We shall see

Anyone know if a set of Sport Cup 2's can be had for the 666M's on a ZCP M3/M4?

Does this mean that the .5 difference won't make much of an impact on grip? What's the point then?

No, his point has absolutely nothing to do with the potential benefits of the wider wheel.

He was merely informing the poster he replied to that track width is defined as the measurement between the center line of the two wheels. So, making the wheels wider does not change the track width. Rather, you must change the offset to make the measured track width larger (or smaller).

As a corollary to that, you can actually increase the track width while at the same time keeping wheel width the same, or even when reducing wheel width. Similarly, you can decrease the track width while at the same time keeping wheel width the same, or even when increasing wheel width. Again, all of this is driven by offset.

So the width from the outside of one wheel to the outside of the other is irrelevant in determining track width by definition. Now, whether or not that distance is less important than, more important than, or as important as the track width measurement in terms of how it effects the car's handling or other characteristics is another discussion entirely.

Very informative response! Thank you.

So if all else was the same (e.g. Car, offset, tires, does the .5 difference make much of a difference in terms of handling?

A wider wheel will allow for different fit of the tire sidewall that can help to improve the crispness of the handling response.

After driving the car for a while, I think the single biggest weakness of this car is the rear tires are just too narrow. This car screams for 305 rear, at least. That's too much for 10.5" width, so aftermarket is going to have to come in to make this car what BMW missed. (I have no qualms with the 265 fronts!)
