B9 RS5 Spy Shots

http://paultan.org/2016/09/20/spysho...ign=fbnewsfeed

Looks like the next gen RS5 is being tested. Same V6 as Panamera S. Rumor seems to be the RS5 sportback is planned for a US launch as well.

*Edit* Added more pics found by a member of the Audi forums.

V6 with hot-v twin turbos. Produces 440hp and 405tq in the new Panamera S.

Glad to see sportback is making its way to the US.

I doubt the US will see the hatchback. They aren't bringing the RS3 hatch over I don't see why they would bring the RS5 hatch over. Very similar to the rumors that said Mercedes would bring their hatch variant of the C63 over to the US.

That is interesting regarding the power output if true. The outgoing RS 5 V8 produced 444HP so with the HP wars and the new c63 S i would have guessed that the new RS 5 would be making close to 500 as well. Also bc traditionally it is much heavier than the m3/m4

The new A5/S5 sportback has already been confirmed for US. So if a RS5 sportback does happen, I wouldn't be surprise if comes over to the US as well.

The 2017 S5 sportback is attractive, has good lines.

I am sure there is more power left on the table. This same engine will finds its way into MkII R8. The R8 will most likely see larger turbos and more boost. Who knows what this powerplant will produce in the RS5.

I'd be interested if there is a significant weight drop over the last one

As much as i love the way this car looks; i've tried to buy an audi from 3 different dealerships on many different occasions, and have never been successful. Something about the sales people there...

I somehow missed that the A5/S5 press shots had already broken cover ahead of the cars' scheduled Paris debut. That blue S5 pictured above looks downright beautiful to my eye.

The bad news about the prospect for the RS5 Sportback in the US is that the same leaked timeline that confirms we'll see the A5/S5 Sportback here next May:

http://fourtitude.com/news/audi-rumo...ge-timeframes/

makes no mention of the RS5 Sportback here through 2018 - only the RS5 coupe. This doesn't mean it won't come, it just means we might be looking at 2019 before it gets here (or anywhere else for that matter - ROW launch timeframe still unknown).

I have a penpal in Germany that is waiting for the S5 Sportsback. Said he plans to get it in 2016 when it releases. I am kind of waiting on it to hear how the car drives

When I bought my S4 back in 2013, Audi of Turnersville was amazing to work with. I still drop in from time to time to chat with my old CA and Sale Manager.

It's funny because I did not have a great experience with the one CA a ton of folks on here worked with at the local BMW dealership.

According to prevailing rumor, yes. Both are related to the new 4.0L Porsche V8 in the Panamera Turbo which is apparently not an evolution of the existing Audi 4.0L V8, but an all new design. Incidentally, it will also replace the Audi V8 in all future applications (starting with the gasoline powered SQ7 headed to the US next year).

This article provides some more detail on the differences between the two V6 engines.

http://youwheel.com/home/2016/07/05/...rbo-v6-engine/

Note that the 2.9L is a twin turbo, while the 3.0L is single turbo. So in that way, it's similar to the difference between an S55 and a N55 (or the new B58), except that VAG has decreased the displacement for the higher output motor for whatever reason.

The quote below is from Audi. The current understanding seems to be we in NA will likely not get the RS4, but something else. That something else is rumored to be the RS5 Sportback.

"The potential in China and the U.S. for RS models is getting us thinking about body styles that may work there—maybe a hatchback, like the RS7.”

+1. The outgoing generation was a huge success but I'm not on board with this prologue nonsense. From the S5 Sportback shots, however, the hatch design is something I can get behind.

I like the looks of the RS5...last gen and this new one..cause they look very similar.

The sportback looks better than a 3er GT...so at least it has that going for it.
