2018 BMW M4 Comp  [0.00]
2011 BMW 335is  [6.00]
Hey guys. Ive been after the M4 since it came out, and finally thinking about taking action, and trading in my 335is.

I've been reading all through the forums on what kind of deals members have been getting.

I've speaking with a local dealer who has an M4 I'm interested in. I've been working on purchase price but can't seem to get them to budge any lower.

Can you guys tell me if this is a good purchase price or not. It's been on the lot for two months.

Specs:

2017 M4 with Comp pack
Tanzanite
Silverstone extended
DCT
Executive package
Lighting package
No Apple car play
CF roof

MSRP listed $82,665
Preferred purchase price 80,999

Neog. Price so far:
"Discount" 3k
$79,665 plus tax & fees

Unfortunately I have no other discounts I can apply.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your help!

Doesn't feel like a great deal to me...I'd keep looking if they're not willing to go lower.

For sure. Truecar average in my area reads 78,500-79,000. Does not feel like they are discounting the car much. Might be why it's been sitting for two months.

I can't get the same MSRP you do - I calculate 81295. Invoice from that calculation is in the neighborhood of 74,800. A great price gets you within 1K of that number. Plus whatever I missed to calculate a lower MSRP than you show. So if MSRP is 82665, then invoice is approx 76100 and a great price would be 77100.

There's a thread for 2017 pricing - I would post your deal in there for others to comment on.

What do you guys think?
1. Always negotiate from from Invoice price, net out any and all BMW NA credits and rebates. Then add the dealer profit on top.
2. Always include all fees (title, reg, etc) and financing in the upfront negotiations. Else, they will get out of control later on.
3. $3K off MSRP is a sucker offer. See point #1.

Thanks for the info. I will use this to get best price I'm comfortable with.

How do you determine invoice price? I did calculate it over at edmunds.com, but is there another way? Does the dealer divulge this info, or is it up to the buyer to be savvy enough?

Thank you. There were some small add ons I was not aware of. BMW First aid kit, Wheel locks, LED door projector, and of course the destination charge.

First of all, yes, dealer knows the Invoice price, and reputable ones will share that info with you without too much fuss. It's the first question I ask when I go new car shopping, and if the answer is evasive, I know the rest of the negotiation will involved further dishonest twists and turns. I stop dealing with the SA (sales adviser) right there and there, and either find another SA at the same dealership, or call/visit other dealerships. Eventually, you will find 2-3 guys at local dealers with whom you can do business, and become their repeat customer.

Invoice prices are also posted in here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1272046

I would ask the dealer for Invoice data anyway, even if you've done your research and know that answers.
That question is just a really good BS-screening tool

Destination charge is legit.
Everything else is BS inserted by the dealer to increase the mark-up. Especially the wheel locks.

I had the destination charge in my build up - it's not optional. So if that's correct then the dealer is ripping you off for $1,300 for the other stuff (wheel locks, LED, first aid).

Afdeev is correct - about everything above. I gave you invoice because you always negotiate UP from invoice. If the dealer has added on options that you don't want, then off they come or they get a LOT more realistic about pricing. The invoice value is your key to know what kind of deal you are getting.

At the end, a good deal is a personal value statement - you are getting what you want at a value you are willing to pay and the dealer likewise. Some just want THAT car and will pay whatever for it. Some value staying local, some like to get every nickel out of the deal even if it takes months and shopping at lots of places.

Thank you for your informative reply. I have send an email stating I'm looking for 1k over invoice. If no deal, I'll move on to the next one.

It really depends on your market but I don't see a reason not to start your negotiation at or slightly below invoice, especially on a 2017 that's already on their lot.

Was able to get to 1k over invoice, purchase price. Still trying to decide if that's a fair price for the car. Thanks to all that responded.

Congrats. That seems pretty reasonable - hope you get to a good place and pull the trigger. You won't be sorry............

Thanks. I've been drooling over the M4 since it's debut.

I'm hoping the numbers are what I need them to be, and they give me a fair price for my trade, plus air bag replacement incentive since they never has the air bag to replace it.

Really wish I was able to take advantage of the other incentives, but don't qualify.

So. I used Leasematic to configure and get numbers with AARP & discounts. Inputed all data in correctly. Came out to 860 a month lease. Dealer came back with an absurd monthly payment at $1253.07. They accepted the $1500 discount but not the reduced MF one forum member posted that came with the AARP discount.

Low balled me on my trade of course.

So I will continue the hustle.
