You have to disconnect the wire on the gearbox and put something that holds the locking arm in up possision.

Does this throw any codes or cause any issues? If you have done this would really appreciate your insights and experience

Our M4 is race car, so we're going to try and set up a pull cable for that lever inside the car this summer.

In that pic you took , is the lever on the driver or passenger side of the tranny?

Sorry not my pic and TBH forget where I grabbed it from - think it was from another thread on BP but can check when I return from current business trip.

With my car idling I shifted to neutral, shut the car down with single press of button, but leaving the drivers door open. Car stayed in neutral, was able to get it loaded onto flat deck this way. But that’s on an M2 dct.

No it won't. If you shut the engine down with the transmission in Neutral it will stay in Neutral until you press the Start/Stop button a second time (with your foot off the brake).

I wonder if you could retrofit the lever under the shift boot from the E90 M3. IIRC, the transmission is the same getrag model.

That would work in the F8x DCT as well, but you shouldn't have to gerry rig it like that.

Will this work on F8x? I'm guessing if it's an oil cooler incident the last thing you want to do is start the car again to put into neutral.

There is no 2014MY F8X...

It will only go into Park if the DCT is in either D, S or R. If it is in N, it will stay in N. It has been that way since inception of the F8X.

The M2 is also an F8X (an F87)

But yes, this also works on an M3/4. Shut the engine down with a single press of the Start/Stop button while the DCT is Neutral and it will stay in Neutral (not engage the parking pawl). You will however not be able to lock the car and it will honk annoyingly if you do attempt to lock it. Note that the DCT will go into Park if you press the Start/Stop button a second time (with your foot off the brake, otherwise it will just re-start the engine).

Sorry.... wtf.

I ordered my car in mid 2014 and picked it up In August 2014. It was a 2014 to me.

Regardless. Mine went into park if i shut it off. Fact.

Sure it did, when you shut it off while in D, S or R. But I seriously doubt it went straight to P if you shut it off with a single press of th Start/Stop button when in N.

Calendar year ‘14 but model year according to BMW started in 2015. Cutover date wasn’t Jan 1 2015. They started building these in 2014. You’re ok. Just model specific jargon

I guess BMW didn’t think too many engines would suffer oil loss issues to necessitate the cost of adding a release mechanism that was easily accessible.
