Exactly, which the S65 doesn't have. Ferrari vs BMW is apples & oranges....

Why do keep on with that ? Because your I6 does not feel as exotic as the M3's V8 ?

Ferrari is a pure sportscar, BMW M3 is a sportscar for every day, Motorsport inspired. Not apples & oranges. But you are right, next M3/M4 will be apples and oranges.

The M3 V8 sounds exotic, the price is exotic and that's about it irl.
I should have chosen a C63 AMG saloon at that time...silly me.

N54/55 are great DD engines from experience.

What then about the R8 V8 ? Exotic...
-name
-design
-sound
-price
...but barely faster than the M3.

Indeed. FI 3.0l I6 < NA 6.2l V8

Not a fan of teh noise just yet, but I do agree that the F80 looks more attractive than the F82 so far. The F82 will probably need a hint of a drop and spacers to top it off.

I for one can't wait for the new M3/M4 to be released. I am willing to give BMW the benefit of the doubt and they have never missed the mark in the past. It will be a hit!

No, Ferrari is a race-car (track), that goes on the road as well.
M3 is a sports-car (road), that goes on the track as well.

Don't compare M3 with Ferrari. Seriously.

And if you think that FI-engines do not belong in sports-cars, think about:
Nissan GT-R (racing in GT3 class against NA Ferraris, Lambo's etc)
Bugatti Veyron (fastest exotic sports car money can buy)
Porsche Turbo (legendary icon)
Subaru Impreza (dominated rally in its era)
Audi Quatro (dominated rally in its era)

Also there have been many years of turbo-charged F1 championships !

So turbo is very good. BMW just need to do it right in the next M3 (like no HPFP problems).

So the new coupe will likely have a full inch longer wheel base than the big old 650i. That is crazy. No wonder it seems so big and looks like a 6-series going around the track.

I'm sure it will be a good looking car, but I don't think I want a coupe much bigger than my E92.
I think the 4e r will have a 108" wheelbase. Reason being, the a5 has a shorter WB than the a4, and the 6er shorter WB than the 5er. Now that they are distinguishing the coupe from the sedan, i think there will be significant dimensional differences. Rear seat leg room is not a major priority in the f32/f82.

Racing version of GT-R has a NA V8. Bugatti doesn't participate in Motorsports, race 911 is a GT3, not a Turbo. Only WRC (rally cars) use turbo, but they have 4WD and anti-lag, what is not road legal. Well, now in WTCC they also went from NA 2.0l I4 to FI 1.6l I4.

E82M < E46M CSL

till the end of the world, unless BMW brings up a new M2 CSL powered by a FI I4.

@Levi. I said in years. The CSL came out in 2003. So the 1M is the best //M in years.

Just stop whining.

Just a bunch of 2012 M3 owners hating this new M because of the sound! It's pretty much the only flaw of downsizing the engine. We get it, you buy a car based on the engine sound, or you're just hating cuz you still have a fairly new M3 muahaha

The fact is, this car is going to drive better than your M3! M has been improving every generation and has not disappointed so far.

E92 M3 sounds great but that's about the only thing going for it.

It is not completely in proportion in relation from headlights (eye-bags) to the air intakes as it was sketch in a few minutes.
But it is a fairly accurate rendition of the aerodynamics packet for the M4. Some of the details are inherited from the larger M6 , but some are new especially around the lower areas of the aerodynamics.

The appearance is distinctively M. Restrained and understated until you get behind the wheel. The M4 continues the approach taken with the new generation of BMW's to make them more coherent and some of the best-looking cars on the road today.
Proportions of the Coupe give it a very elegant but sport-dynamic that will extend its appeal , especially to those that pine for a 6er and cannot extend financially. Like previous Coupe models it forgoes the removal of the B-Pillar which is a key BMW Coupe feature where structural rigidity has far more importance than clean elegance.

The more sporting profile also lends BMW its opportunity to forge a new niche in the mid-level segment with the 4er Gran Coupe to sit alongside the 4er Coupe and Cabrio. Again like the larger 6er Gran Coupe, the 4er Gran Coupe aims to mate the benefits of four doors with the style, pace, dynamics and efficiency of the 4er Coupe.
Add further dynamic proficiency , precision and high performance for the flagship M4 Gran Coupe.

Damn scott. That was a big big big big insight. Normally you aren't so revealing. So from your sketch we can assume the CF roof will be contoured like the M6, it will have similar front bumper design, and the mirrors reflect the m5/6 more than the fork like setup from the e36/e9x. I know all that could well change but I like that. A smaller, lighter, cheaper (because as you said I can't afford a 130k car) M6

Damn Scott! Thanks for the info\sketch!
If it has the same CF roof (or closely similar in design) to the M6, then, this car will be fricken amazing!
Scott, is this rendition pretty close (with the exception of LEDs, CF roof)? http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696540

Seeing what BMW did with the 1M, I'm sure they will follow suit with the new M3 and M4.

Yes we get it, NA motors are awesome, but you are not going to change the future of the auto market. So please stop whining and talking smack about FI motors.
