Definitely this guy hates the M3. You CANīT compare the Alpina D3 againts a new M3 on the track - no way.

Sportauto tested the B3 410HP (Iīm sure this car is faster than the D3).

New B3 did an 8:14 on the Nordschleife and the new M3/M4 did a 7:52.

Oh man that 22 seconds....

For an everyday drive the Alpina makes a lot of sense. Alpina don't restrict top speed either they quote 173 mph.

Please. The only increment where the B3 is faster is top speed because of the M3s limiter. Remove that and the M3 is faster everywhere. Post facts.

Sport Auto test results:

B3: http://www.sportauto.de/supertest/al...88.html?show=4

B3 Nurburgring : 8.14. F80 M3: 7.52 ( 22 seconds!!!)

B3 Hockenheim short: 1.15.3 F82 M4 : 1.12.18

0-100kph 4.3 sec. F82 M4: 4.2 sec

0-160kph 9.3 sec F82 M4: 8.8 sec

0-200kph 14.6 sec. . F82 M4: 13.7

Faster around a circuit ( not even close). Faster off the line. Accelerates faster.
Faster car. B3 more comfortable, quieter and more exclusive? Yes. Faster? I'm afraid not.

I agree, it's a great car. My disappointment is with the way this review was conducted. The outcome was decided before a key had been turned IMO.

what can i say ? Sutclife is the only guy who hates f80 m3/4, cause like someone said in another review he loved the c63 (raw power, sound etc) and now he says he loves calm, refine, quiet d3!!!!
That's ridiculious!!!! No words!!! Just a Hater!!!!!

p.s d3 is a great car but no way faster than m3!!!

Did anyone else notice the service engine light was illuminated on the D3 near the end of the video?

Autocar was not the only review to knock the new m3/4. There have been quite a few reviews that were pretty disappointing. That being said I agree there is definitely a biased in this particular review.

I like the rawness and aggression of the m3. Sports car soul in a practical sedan body.

To each their own though

My sentiments exactly. I'd like the D3 drivetrain in an F31 M Sport. THAT would be awesome.

I have not driven the new M3, but I can compare the 2014 Alpina D3 (though "only" in Touring and xDrive, since I have one) to the 1M and no way the D3 would keep up with the F80 M3. I do like my Alpina, since it rides beautifully and is very fast, but my stock 1M would beat it. And the 1M is way weaker than the new M3, so my guess is that the M3 would have to beat the D3 easily (I know that the tested was RWD and saloon, thus lighter and with less drivetrain loss, but anyway).

I also donīt get, why Alpina used the ordinary front and rear bumper and didnīt take the m sport line parts. The front lip looks good, but the car would have looked much better, if they started with the m bumper.

I think they prefer the more understated look rather than the M Sports more aggressive look.

...which goes out of the windows when they throw in those 20" turbine wheels. Don't get me wrong, the signature Alpina wheels look fantastic on the e30 B3 and the B10 but they look downright gaudy on newer bimmers.

This has to be the worst and biased review.

I am surprised that Sutcliffe is happy to do it that way.

The time when he "acted" like he was running them and timing them was a JOKE!
I think his foot was planted and he was steering right and left.

I just think that it does it for Autocar.

Very bad review and very very biased.

So one car IS a diesel, the other sounds like one and revs like one, and they're about the same pace. BFD.

I have driven both (D3 & B3) and own a new M3. If the depreciation on the Alpina was not so poor, I would have bought the Alpina. It feels more bespoke (Alpina leather interior is marvellous) and externally it is more discrete which is a good thing in London. That said the M3 does feel more exciting and externally has more visual feel. Performance between the three cars is very similar so it is a matter of preference rather than one been better then the other. B3 fuel consumption and M3 are very similar (20 mpg).
