Tire sizes?
My wheels are the Vorsteiner VFF-103s in the following sizes:
Front - 19x9.5 ET22 Rear - 19x10.5 ET34 I love the wheels, but I'm having a hard time deciding on which tire sizes I ultimately want to pair with the wheels. I'd love to get community input on this. I'm looking for a predominantly street tire that I may occasionally dual-purpose for a track day, maybe two times a year. I'm considering both Michelin PSS and Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, but I am open to others. Let me know what you think! Option 1 Front - 275/35R19 Rear - 295/35R19 This is the setup I currently have. I moved the stock rears (PSS) to the front and got BMW star spec PSS (OEM M5 rears) for my new rears. I like the fact that it maintains a slightly taller rear overall diameter and doesn't throw constant DSC intervention. My concern with this setup is whether or not the tire, in particular the rears, are too tall? Option 2 Front - 275/30R19 Rear - 295/30R19 What I like about this setup is the same as the above. My concerns are that the tires will be shorter in overall diameter than stock tires. Option 3 Front - 265/35R19 Rear - 305/30R19 This seems to be a popular setup. What I like about it is that it maintains a similar overall diameter to the stock tires. My concerns with this setup are: (1) 305s might be too wide for a 10.5" wheel; (2) increased understeer with a 40mm width difference; and (3) rears are no longer taller than fronts, leading to increased DSC intrusion. |

I'm currently on stock suspension, but if I go with Options 2 or 3, I will also lower the car just a little bit. In that case, I'll probably go with AC Schnitzer or Eibach US spec springs (if/when released).
I will say, I like the way the 295/35s fill out the rear wheel wells, but the 275/35s in the front still leave a bit too much front wheel gap for my tastes. Would it be a terrible idea to change springs in the front only? |
