Not sure if this is relevant but it's interesting nonetheless:

When I was washing my 2016 M3 over in Europe with the power washer at the self-wash, I noticed that the stream of the powerwasher would occasionally trigger the trunk opener. I don't know if this means the 2016 has a more sensitive sensor (possibly compatible with OEM or even aftermarket diffusers?), or it's par for the course, but my 3 & 5 Series loaners haven't been as sensitive. Any thoughts?

Par for the course IMO, power washer will also set off comfort access on the doors

You take off the sensor (It's the black wire/antenna looking things clipped into the white plastic) and reverse mount it to the other side.

You just have to kick your foot in further, but this works.

It does expose the sensor to the elements - which is why I put it back and just live without the trunk kick.

Figured as much. Yeah, my 7 has the power washer unlock feature too...

Is there a setting in coding to increase the sensitivity of this function?

Couldn't find any sensitivity when I was coding last week, also I tried relocation the black antenna but no luck, I think the sensor is both the antenna and the black strip at the top , both will need to be reverse mounted for it to work. That is why when you don't screw in the 4 bolts and flex that area towards the diffuser it still works, but the moment you bolt it all up , the distance increases and it now too far and the signal is blocked too much but the carbon fiber

Supposedly the Status Gruppe allows for it to work. I'm going with this one so I will let you know.

Hey all,

When you guys installed the CF rear diffuser, does your rear parking sensor not work properly? For me, the rear parking sensor AND the kick trunk open doesn't work. Any, ANY tip on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated, obviously with the CF diffuser installed, not the original non-CF diffusor.

Carbon diffuser and Comfort Access

Anyone here got both of the above on their car? Some Googling tells me waving your foot under rear of car to open the boot doesn't work if carbon diffuser fitted. But mine has worked occasionally so wanted to check if there is a fix and what others' experience is? Thanks

The M Perf one is meant to work with comfort access.

It's been pretty well covered that any real CF diffuser will block the signals to the kick sensor. It's just the nature of carbon fiber. BMW has stated this and an interview I read here explained that is also the reason the shark fin is not made of CF.

There was at least one forum member that was able to relocate the sensor towards the front of the car to make it work again.

One of the posts in the links above states that water flow can trigger boot release. That explains why it works when I'm washing the car!

Exactly - happens to me all the time when I forget I have fob in my pocket. Annoying!

I had Mperf-- did not work. Then switched to STatus Gruppe CF 1x1 diffuser before --- It worked with comfort kick sensor about 95% of the time.

After a couple of weeks or so.... i got bored with diffuser and wanted something more extended... So Switched i switched to Exotics. Does not work with kick...but i seldom ever use that function anyway since I dont DD my M4.

If you look at my link below my signature, i still have early photos of my car with SG diffuser on.

I'll stick with the non-functioning handsfree boot release. But if I ever feel it's more important than the diffuser, you'll be top of my contact list.

Hope you're enjoying your new car.

I don't have this feature but I have been told lots of owners do not realise that only when you step back from the car after wiping your foot does the boot actually open?! Could give that a try
