Going to check out a 2016 M3

I'm going to check out a 2016 M3, 6MT later this week. It's low mileage (20K km) and I'm pretty sure it has all the options except for ZCP. It does have the Performance Exhaust. Based on searching here, F8x seem to be problem free in their young life with the exception of some rattling in the early production ones. Presumably warranty would have sorted things like this out. This is not from the dealer so it won't be CPO. Is there any problem that I should be particularly aware of? I've got an E90 MT as perspective.

M Performance Exhaust has been known to crack. Look into whether that's still under warranty.

Have the PPI done, pull car history. See if the car feels right

Ask about history of the car from seller (assuming it is not a dealer), reason for selling etc.

Good luck. If you end up purchasing don't forget to post pics

I didn't know that about the MPE. According to the sales guy, car was owned by rich retired guy who gets heavily optioned cars, drives them down to Florida for winter and gets rid of them the following year. Yahh, yahh could be true, could be BS. Records are supposed to be available though. Was there a "break-in" service that needed to be done?

Evap sensor in the AC unit has been a minor issue, also watch out for 1.5lb/in^2 drops in tire pressure when you launch. The car has been known to buck a little bit.

Good luck.

Breakin service is at 1200 miles (US). Apparently intercooler leaks are common too, even on new '18s. Browse the Mechanical sub forum for more.

If the tires are still the original PSS without wear on the outer shoulder that would be great. If it is a new set or if the tires have scuffing on the sidewalls or feathered edges on the outer shoulder, its a clear sign of having been driven hard

I don't know how JB4 hooks up in this car but I would look for evidence of that as well.

I personally try to stay away from a used car that's been driven hard and/or modded unless I personally know the previous owner

That's a good point about the tires. At that mileage they should be original. Anybody know what the original tread depth is? I'll check the rotors too. Are the brakes set up so a lip forms with wear?

you can pull entire service history of the car from the dealer- not sure if the owner is willing to go to the dealer with you. Usually cpo cars, dealers can just pull the info for you, but not sure about a private sale.

My MPE needed to replaced at 30k. $$$$ if you are not under warranty. It should carry over though, since it sounds like the original owner ordered it with the car.

The S55 is a rock solid platform, no real worries there.

As far as early production rattles, that's definitely not accurate and I can't say has improved. My new 2017 I got in May still rattles a good amount both when it was brand new and to date. Mostly seems to come from the console area, driver dash, and front passenger side door.

Living with rattles from BMW is just something I've come to agree with. The car is going to rattle.

I have a late 2015 build and I haven't had a rattle problem yet. Some do, some don't. I seem to have gotten lucky.

I'll also echo the sentiment that the S55 seems to be bulletproof.
