My guess would be a centrifugal style. Basically an electric motor drives a gear reduction impeller. Would probly only be used to spool up the smallest turbo most likely....
They could use higher voltage to run it???? The could use a combo a/c compressor with a built in high voltage alternator that could recharge a small high voltage battery to power it??? |

hmmm.. i think they should do a light weight higher displacement inline 6 with a twin turbo system. I don't know if the new electric turbos system (guessing) will be appropriate for an ///M

Can you give more details on the Performance Package, Uli? Available at launch? Europe only? Can it be retrofitted at a later date to soften the learning curve for owners?
I'm sure it's far too early to know those answers, but still...

Ugh, potentially different power levels available in the M3 or M4 or whatever it will be called. It will cost BMW precisely $0 (software) to offer different power levels and they will be charging at least $3k (USD) for the little power bump.

Yeah, I know, I am in the software business. What I meant, more precisely and in more detail, is that the cost of the physical items in the different engine level cars will be precisely zero. Similarly the cost for BMW to develop the software to increase turbo boost will be miniscule. To be fair a significant amount of testing will need to be done, but that is the only cost. Their profit margin on this options will probably be higher than the margins on most other options.
