Could it be possible that there are only two F8x coming?

I heard an rumor that it could be possible that there are only two future F8x models are coming:
- F80 M3 sedan
- F82 M4 coupe

If that would be the truth, that meen:
- there would be no M4 Convertible and an M440i Convertible only
or
- there would be an M4 Convertible, but based on the regular F3x and not on the Lightweight-F8x

... I think the first alternative would make no/little sense but the second could be possible ... because of the roof an convertible couldn´t be really lightweight!

Could this rumor be possible?

I don't think so. If there is an M6 Convertible, and there has always been a heavier M3 Convertible, why would there be no M4 Convertible? So if true, then second alternative is possible, M4 will be F33 and not F83. But what about M4 GranCoupé? F885 or F35? I'd say F85 also.

To Levi's point: BMW makes an F12 and F12M, so why wouldn't they also produce an F33 and F83? Having both an M4 convertible and several 4-series convertibles (428i, 435i, M440i, etc) adheres nicely to BMW's aggressive and granular market segmentation strategy.

M Convertibles have always been lucrative for BMW. So the M4 Cabrio is a dead cert for introduction. Although limited in production , the E30 M3 Convertible sired an E36 M3 Convertible Which back in 1994 I had an E36 M3 Convertible in Green with a Tan leather interior for a few months. And of course further progress brought Cabrios of the E46 and E93.

The M4 will mirror the M6 what with Coupe , Cabrio and the imminent Gran Coupe. The current M3 Cabrio is a highly popular car and why not? Not only is it the best looking and best resolved Cabrio , the car has excellent standards of rigidty and handling even more so than direct competitors.
Its drop-dead looks can be contributed to the genius of Chris Bangle who set the challenge for the engineers to come up with a concept that mirrored the sleek proportions drawn up by the winning designer.

The folding hard-top continues as it has increased the car's popularity in emerging markets. A return to a soft-top was considered but was vetoed when the Cabrio hard-top contributed to strong sales in BRIC markets.

...
The rumor doesn´t rule out an M4 Convertible ... it only says that there are only two planed F8x variants.
