The new package is arguably a better value than the old one since it includes adaptive headlights. The downside is that you now must order the package to get those lights whereas before you could get them in a separate Lighting Package. |

Wouldn't buy a 2018 without the icon LEDs.

The new exec looks to be quite different from old exec, and I agree is a pretty solid value. Heck, the LEDs alone used to be a $2k option.

You're mistaken - it was explicitly mentioned in the pricing guide (see attached snapshot from MY2017 M3/M4 Pricing Guide below). It boils down to a small difference in semantics. If they included Extended Leather, the package would list for $3050 instead of $2100. However, that would mean that people who want CSAT get shafted for $950 like they did with the old package. So its actually a welcome change. For the MY2018 M3, its still included in the package which is unfortunate for those who want cloth.

For those that list resale value as a reason to get the package, I find that ridiculous. You are still going to get nowhere near the cost back when it comes time to sell, just like any other option you add. Virtually every option is pennies on the dollar when it comes time to sell. Just get what you want because you want it, not because you think it will pay off down the road (hint: it wont).

I could've sworn I didn't see that option on the online configurator both for BMW UK and US.

I only want the lights in the Exec. Package.. wish they stayed stand alone. HUD was OK on my F80 but I don't miss it at all now.

Also I hate polarized sunglasses so that's a non issue for me. And if your hands get sweaty after using the heated steering wheel for a few minutes, isn't that the point? You turn it off then. But those minutes you used it are glorious! And PDC will pay for itself the first time you don't scrape your bumper due to the sensors. But the lights are the star of the show. Makes it pretty easy to justify since the lighting package was 1900 before. |

I don't think I would ever buy a car without a HUD display again, not if I could help it. Total gamechanger, especially for spirited/sport driving.

Of course it adds to the value, but as even you acknowledge, you arent getting all of your money back so in the end its just another depreciating part of the car. For a private party sale, I agree this would probably help the car sell quicker compared to one that did not have this package (all else being equal). But the vast majority of people simply trade their cars into a dealership so for those people, no real benefit.

Since I typically keep a car for a long time, I want to make sure to get some of the newer features that will likely become more and more standard in other cars over the years. Five years down the road, when Kias start including things like HUD, top/side cameras, and adaptive lighting for even their most basic models, I don't want to look back and say, "man, I shoulda just ponied up the few extra k's for those niceties." I'll have enjoyed those features for several years before the masses start getting them. It's happened with nav, bluetooth, back-up cameras, xenons, etc., those "I can't remember life before them" features.
Of course that doesn't apply if you're swapping cars every couple years, but that's my justification. |

Yes, though to see the details for MY18 you'll need to build an M4 since the M3 still shows the details from MY17.

I feel like I am talking in circles here. Yes it will add to trade-in/resale value. No you will not recoup the cost you paid for it new. Thus it loses value over time just like the car itself. Thus the notion of adding this, or any option when new under the facade of "increased resale value" is foolish. Add options because you want them and for no other reason. This will be my last post on this topic as I did not mean to sidetrack this thread.

I would 100% get the Exec Pack if I was doing it over again. The value is way better now too. I got it strictly for the sensors and backup camera when I ordered my 2016 M4.
I personally don't think the HUD is gimmicky at all. I really like having the speed, nav, and radio station scroll in there. The polarized sunglasses can be an issue at some angles but I can still see everything pretty easily even on bright Florida days. To chime in on the resale debate, I bought this car with the options I planned on using and never took resale into account. This car is for me and if I find value in the options then I'll pay for them. Just my 2¢
